iu have an english site
but my hosting is in netherlands
will it effect my site ranks in google?
or it doesn't really matter where the server with my site is located?

i target english speaking people. us/uk and so on

thx

it doesn't really matter where the server with my site is located?

That is your own answer - exactly it does not matter

I agree with steelballs. It doesn't Matter where a site is located as long as you host it properly.

In theory now no, you can set primary target in webmaster tools.

According to my experience "It matters" . If someone searches for your website in Netherlands and your website is hosted in Netherlands, then your Google ranking will be higher than that of United States.

Some people say it matters, but how much it matters is one variable, and how close the server is to the local business is another.

for example, "they" say it's better to have a server in the same country than on the other side of the planet for local search results. One can see how Google might assume that a server that resolves far away from where the local search is being done might not be as local as one that is in the same country.

I wouldn't worry about UK to Netherlands, however I wouldn't get hosting in Thailand for a local business. No compelling reason to do this, and it does present some risk.

I don't really believe this; I'm just relating what others have said.

As far as I know, it doesn't matter at all. What does matter is the domain extension you've got - for example a .com.es will have a better SERP in Spain than it US...

It's both!

It doesn't matter if for example, you want to set the location in Google Webmaster Tools (GWMT).

But, server location is a ranking factor for a specific location as Cutts mentioned in skrode's post #7, in the same way that TLD is a ranking factor. So, if you don't want to use GWMT, then an alternative is to use a ccTLD and/or host the site in the target country.

In my experiences, I've seen that it does matter especially when it comes to local searches. For example, a search for product XYZ in France will be most likely to return pages from France on product XYZ. For this, server location is obviously only one of the factors, but yes it does play a part as far as my own experiences are concerned.
