Does LLMs.txt actually have a future?

I am seeing more people recommend LLMs.txt as part of GEO/AI SEO.

But is it actually useful? Google says you don't need it for AI Search, and recent research suggests AI crawlers barely request it.

So what's your take?

Future standard, useful experiment, or just another SEO industry hype?

Would you implement it on a serious project today?

More as an experiment than a must have right now. It’s easy enough to add, but don’t expect it to suddenly improve AI visibility, better focus on content structure and clear, useful information first.

LLM is just to be treated as an experiment rather than something essential

I think the bigger issue is how llms.txt is being sold.
An seo agency could tell a client, You dont have llms.txt, so you are losing ai traffic.
The client pays a significant amount of money, the agency creates the file, but if ai crawlers dont actually use it, there may be little or no benefit.

Im not saying llms.txt is useless. It may become useful in the future. but right now, I would treat it as an experiment, not a proven geo ranking factor.

I'd treat llms.txt as an experiment not a core seo requirement, there's currently no strong evidence that it directly improves google ai visibility, so technical seo, content quality, authority & crawlability should remain the priority
