Does IM ever Keep You up at Night?

i was up last night untill 4 am reading, its 12:13pm here now, i woke up at noon.

Normally i try to be in bed by 12 to 1

Yes, weird question.

I don't know about you guys, but my brain goes into overdrive when I have a good IM idea. I didn't sleep last night because my brain won't turn off. It insists on pondering every aspect or possible aspect of my good IM idea to it's logical conclusion. It adds up costs, implements theoretical scaling, determines required skillsets, enumerates needed assets, calculates hypothetical response and revenue, and walks through every other step of the logistical process option by option, and result by result.

It drives me crazy, but at the same time it's so helpful for productivity.

...am I the only one?

It happens and I can't say it is normal because for that you would need to define 'normal'. Some of the best products/projects I have produced came from suddenly waking up at 3am with an "ah ha' moment (no, not the 80's pop band, although I always wanted to be that Morten bloke).

When it comes to IM and when it is your passion then you will find that your head won't switch off when you want it to. That means as everyone, else who is programmed to get up at 7am to go to work for 9 hours a day for someone else, Mon tp Fri, doing a job they hate, for a boss they like even less, tells you that what you're doing is crazy, that is when you know you're doing it right.

Your passion for IM will burn inside of you and will drive you. You will make sacrifices and you will do the opposite to what the majority see as 'the norm'. Go with your now flow.

One of my first breakthrough products came to me at 3am. I got up and flicked on the PC and I executed the idea I had woke up with. I left it set up and running while I went back to bed. When I woke up the next day I realised that I had discovered an entirely new system that no one else had found. I worked that shit like mad and when I had perfected it I turned it in to an info type of product and shared it with others for a fee.

If I had not had been passionate and driven by IM then that moment would have never happened. Go with your flow and don't sweat it.

Don't sweat it, for a lot of us it comes with the territory. Up until not so long ago (until my son was born) 4 and 5am was the normal logging off time for me. I liked the tranquility at night, I feel the imagination and creativity came alive for me in those wee hours too!

I love this image and have it saved :) I also agree with what you said about 4am being the normal logging off time. But for me, it was when my daughter was first born I was often up at 2am working and when she woke for a feed I would simply stop what I was doing and feed her. No stress and no tiredness (I think this suited the wife too). I remember looking at my daughter as I was feeding her and thinking "I am doing what I do for our future and one day I will tell you all about it". She is now 8 years old and I've had that conversation with her as promised. She wants to follow the same path as me. I won't try and stop her.

i still had this problem, in the past i used to work in the night, because i like the quite and nobody is disturbing you, BUT i had problems in the ext day, i always woke up LATE,
NOW i am trying to change that, by sleeping 8 hours in the night and start working in the day in 5 o 6 am, ITS HARD and i need time change that...:(

There is something different about working at night time. The peace and quiet, the stillness, it makes things so much easier to get done.

Nothing beats a good sleep at night, waking up fresh in the morning. If you don't sleep at night you will eventually go crazy.

When you hit your 40's this is very true :) I still like being up at 3am though but no longer does my body/brain allow me to work all night and then be awake all the next day without issues.

Very True!!! Even in college, every project/homework I ever did, including studying for exams, was during the night, between 11 PM and 4-5 AM. I also know many people (including me) who have increased productivity during the night and can't do shit during the day. So, it's perfectly normal. Most of the people nowadays do the opposite, because they have to get up at 8 AM to get to work. With IM, you have no such limitations!

I was a night owl, when i was younger, not anymore. I appreciate a good night sleep better than anything lately. I go to sleep early, i wake up early. I guess, i'm getting old.

Happens to us all. I actually enjoy a good nights sleep now although I do love the peace and stillness of working late at night.

I'm so glad successful IM'ers like t0mmy can relate to this tendency. I must be doing something right then :p

Why are you still coming up with ideas? Stop it with the ideas and stick to 1. I did that a lot when I got into IM back in 2009 when I was 13-14, but that stopped a while ago.

I do understand what you all talking about, But what the hell is "IM" definition?

yup happens ,

Have had a lot of such nights , a few times went straight 40-50 hours without sleeping , wouldn't recommend that tho coz sooner or later you will get fucked .
I love however thinking&planning around 2-3 am , my thoughts are so clear and my productivity reaches its peak

I'm thinking about taking ginkgo biloba, because I'm sure I keep forgetting all my overnight million dollar Ideas.

Always trying to think of new ways to increase my income stream. Ultimate end goal is at least 3 figures a year. See so much opportunity in IM, it's hard to not just want to blast away at it all day
