The only thing that expired domains without backlinks bypass is a common sense.
There's no "sandbox" as in "my domain can't rank for 3 months".
First months, whether your site is new or big expired domain with 1K RD are shit. They will most of the time always be shit. As the time passes, your content is getting older and around 2 - 3 month mark, if you did everything well, the site will receive a bump in Serps.
Then another comes after maybe 6 months, then another in like 9 etc. The bigger your domain in terms of backlinks, the bigger the bounce.

The sandbox effect is not intentional from google, it's just a byproduct of their algorithm.
They ain't guna rank brand new websites with little content and no backlinks, so people automatically think they are sandboxed. And 3-6 months is where normal website owners generally start having backlinks and more content, so the effect fades away.
In reality you can be "sandboxed" for 5 year if you don't publish content or get backlinks.
