Does domain name matter for SEO?

It certainly does. SEO will benefit greatly from a good domain that contains keywords and branding. However, as Google incorporates more additional elements into its ranking algorithm, this is becoming less important.
 
I think it helps people recognize your site faster when it has the keyword in it in the SERPs, and so people are more likely to click on it and affect google algo. Would like to hear from people that have made successful sites from random brand names though. I have never taken the plunge I don't think. lol
 
It does not, it actually limits you. Back in the day small niche sites would rank pretty easily if you point links to it, so people would make something like bestgarbagedisposal.com. the game has changed now and bigger sites rank better, so you're going to run out of topics to write about garbage disposals. What you want is a site that talks about garbage disposals, kitchen sinks, other kitchen stuff.. so if your site is bestgarbagedisposal.com it will just look weird af right? Instead you want something like kitchenpicks.com or whatever else that is more of a brand or category based domain that allows you to expand.
 
There are other factors that are MUCH MORE important. Compared to them domain name or tld is nothing.
 
I think it will not help you to rank much in SEO. Only good quality contents and backlinks will helps in SEO.
 
What matters is what users think when they see your domain name in SERPs. If they think "what kind of trash is this?", then you'll lose a lot. For example, xyz TLD was spammed to the extent that many users stopped clicking on xyz domains even if they are legit. You should also avoid domain names that are misleading. If you have a short, memorable, and relevant domain name, you'll have better CTR. Although you don't have any direct SEO benefits, domain name matters.
 
It has to have some effect, logically.

It has to have some relevency. But in english Google, i think its a tad different - and honestly its better to get a branded domain.
 
Ohhhh yes! It's a big plus, if you have your keyword as your domain name. that's already huge and ahead of your comps
 
It doesn't matter. I am working with several clients for more than a decade, previously having a keyword in the domain used to give a considerable boost but now, as long as it's relevant, the impact is far less than before.
