I was surprised it provided an answer tailored to my geo saying particularly that I reside in x location when in fact my prompt never mentioned my location in any of the questions I asked.

What’s the deal, we are being tracked or am I missing something?

If you visit any website, be it chatgpt website or any other website, your IP address is a part of your browser / system fingerprints. Be it your real IP (or a proxy's IP). In your case, I guess you used your real IP.

I used a proxy most of the time, proxy or not, I didn’t expect them to have gone that far.
 
I don't believe this, you must have mentioned your location in a previous prompt and ChatGPT is now using it for future responses based on your question. Check your previous conversations.
 
Sometimes these apps use your location data to give personalized answers. It's not always about tracking you.

And I was travelling, so it mentioned the city where I was. Never mentioned that city to it before.
Just checked and asked if it knows my current location, it denies it, but somehow it's lying.

I am telling you guys. Someone in the thread said it’s about personalizing our experience. No it’s not! And that’s just bs.

If anyone wanna confirm this, just change all your location data of your account and billing address and asked it a location-oriented question or simply ask it where you are, of course it may deny this time.

Yeah I noticed that too once. Kinda weird, but maybe it's guessing from IP or browser settings? Not sure if it’s tracking or just creepy good at assumptions lol.
 
So you want to be anonymous and online at the same time. Sorry, it does not work like this anymore.
 
if you have a mobile device, you can be tracked... what makes you think GPT is different?

It’s surprising, but you’re not being tracked. If it showed your location, maybe the app or website you used has location access turned on. It’s using info already shared by your device. You can check your settings to control what’s being shared.
