lol.... i plan visiting it once in a while... hehe

Just thought it would be sweet, your own island, looking at your own star (even possibly renting your own h20). You know, it gets so mundane being on someone's island, looking at someone's star, i'm so depressed right now.

The idea is to buy an island at least 200 miles off the coast of any country. You can then have your own country with your own laws!

From whom would you buy such an insland? And in which country would you register the transaction to prove that you are the new legit owner?

My understanding of private islands is that certain countries-these are, countries to whom those islands belong- started to sell them off in order to improve their budget, then private investor bought them, and now you buy them from these private investors and you register them in the country that sold them in the first place.

I do not know if you can buy an island and create a micro nation... lol...

if ebay dont ban all my account .. and every month they pay me .. i will get my onw island 1 years from now ::chef2:

I am in dubai for a business trip or I would have written you a big reply but for now I'll just say its been my life long dream to buy a island and I dnt care what you think..

I just wanted to know who else shared that dream.. and I was not thinking of a new country just a island for myself

and yes I love peace and nature so its important for me.. you dnt want one is none of my concern.. And thanks to people like you I can find a low cost island..

Less demand means less prices.. Thanks

And I said I smell money coz I can get people like you to buy companies on my island

This post is almost as bad as the one asking what car everyone drives! Focus on your work and making money and set fantasies aside. People who are destined to become millionaires don't give a shit about islands and cars. They like to make money and carve success.

I agree with every part of your post, except this. Money is worthless. Ya, really. It is. It's a bunch of paper and metal. The only reason we want money is because of the dreams and fantasies we can buy with it. Without motivation, making money gets very dull.

The island thing? Meh, like I said, I own that little lot in the middle of nowhere, and even THAT gets boring/has logistical problems. I definitely wouldn't want my own island. But I still think this thread is fucking awesome. Even more awesome than the car thread. Why? Because it provides motivation, and motivation and willpower are the greatest tools us humans have.

I agree with berrycorp. If you do not get it, then maybe you like something else, i dunno ferrari, lamborghini, private jets, technology and stuff.

But having your own island really appeals to my inner self. And i do not want necessary an island to live on it for the rest of my life, with internet connection and pizza delivery, i just want a small island for small vacations, where i can live closer to nature, far from nowadays technology and all this mess.

About people saying "don't talk cars...go make more money.... don't talk islands....go make more money... bla bla bla " I tell them:

Maybe that advice is for you. I make enough money. I am more worried now with how to spend them wisely in order to gain more satisfaction for me and become happier than to make more money.

I do not like making money. I enjoy the challenge to get a site top in the serp, i enjoy the challenge of building a business from a to z, i enjoy what i buy with the money, but i do not enjoy making money. That's why i outsource and automate almost everything.

you cant start your own country on a private island.proof:

http://www.howtobuyaprivateisland.com/starting-your-own-country.htm

Did you bother to read the article? Then i quote for you:
"

"Can I start my own country" is a frequently asked question by people interested in private islands. Despite all the hopeful dictators and would-be Kool-Aid mixers out there, the answer is decidedly NO - you cannot start your own country. Every island in the world has been claimed by one country or another. Each and every island also falls under the auspices of the country in whose waters it sits. Islands are subject to the laws and regulations of that country, as are you, the owner of an island. Nor can you buy an island from a country and claim independence anymore than you can declare sovereignty from your armchair inside a suburban bungalow. "

Your own article just shows that it is impossible to start your own country on an island.

i second this.
though i do not make as much money as Nick does.

We could all put money together in a pot, buy us a blackhat island.
Of course multiple uplink backbones included for secure and fast internet flatrates;)

Nothing is impossible but it's pretty unlikely to be successful ;)
You'd have to put in a few billion $ and you'd never ever get that back again. Most people who are able to spend that already own governments/countries and can simply conquer an island .

It's not what you can do with money that drives people though. It's EARNING it. Money = power = success. Making a lot of money is like a drug. Spending it isn't. That gets boring. But the feeling of power and success that you have over as many people as possible is what makes it what it is.

That's ridiculous, I hate working for money. In wish I could get money just handed to me every day, and I go spend it. Maybe that's something you'd be interested in, since you say spending money is boring for you? :D

fascinating thread. really.

if you own an island, you will need a plane or a boat, and internet ofcourse, generators, diesel to run that and for a jeep that you might have to move about the island. Or maybe you could get a battery powered car and charge it with your generator.

you might need a desalination plant for water for your daily use and for your swimming pool, and you can get bubble top cans for drinking from the nearest shore.

You can't live alone on an island, you will need housekeeping atleast. lets say 4 people including the cook, another guy to ride the boat and doing the shopping at the shore. So you will need to build 5 small houses for them, feed them with power and water, and food too ofcourse :D

If there is a medical emergency, you will be dead before you reach the nearest shore too.

Like the girl said above, it could turn out to be a million dollar project. It might be cheaper to rent.

This is a great investment option though. Buy now, sell in 5 years or something and then buy a posh appartment in New York.

I own a Moon plot
Good area I am selling for $100 million
Lots of aliens

Dark side of the Moon no good somebody said there is no atmosphere there:D

i second that... its about feeling happy that you are special.. and doing something that people cant even dream about

why should i work 18hours a day... if i cant feel the happiness of being special... :)

as you earn more n more.... your toys get bigger..

and as somebody mentioned that a 100k island will come out to be a million dollar project... well thats the fun of it...
if u make 100k you spend it on the island and then the island needs more money and u work harder to make more.. and that provides aspiration to make even more money..

and that circle continues and you make more and more money! and island is a asset... its value rises and rises! and its down in these days... they will go back up like crazy when the property prices go back up!

if i was that guy that shipped the sand from australia and declared his country, only to get overtaken by some neighboring country I would have thrown some of those big bucks at a an army and some fighter jets. some surface to air missiles.. maybe a shitload of sea mines.

if my biz start to jump off i might buy an island on second life. but if you mean a real island, only someplace that is well above sea level, like in the Great Lakes region.
only a moron would buy an island with rising global sea levels. you would be better off just buying an actual oil platform high enough to handle rising sea levels.
