I checked with ahrefs, and my competitor is doing that.

So, it is currently number 1 on page 1.

Best way to give your website rank boosting is to do some Guest Posting on niche relevant sites.

As far as commenting is concerned, it is better to do it if there is relevancy between the topic you are commenting on and your money site niche.

Check where else your competitor got BL from, apart from comments.

It would be a good way to do it.. But remember to choose the relevant forum and the Post. Beware of their moderation as well as some forums that could Ban your account. Also be genuine and not too dramatic with your pitch.

when the time is right, sure

make use of a unique anchor text and it should be good, especially if you add a few sentences related to your site if the page your posting on isnt related to your content.
