I was just curious!
As a Windows Xp, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 user for many many years I finally made the switch to Ubuntu 16 and have been extremely happy with it.
I'm still learning the OS and was hoping to learn a few tips and tricks. Only been an Ubuntu user for about 2 months.

Agreed. Regardless of the OS we use it is safe to say we are essentially being monitored all the time. However the amount of pre installed uninstallable bullshit on Windows 10 was extremely unappealing!!

Also, it should be clarified that Ubuntu is not a synonym for Linux.
The Linux https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_(operating_system) is low-level software that is used as a base for Ubuntu. There are many other Linux distributions built off of this same open-source kernel. The question of why you should use Ubuntu is a much more specific question than asking why you should use Linux in general.

I am on a Macbook Pro. But I have another low-config machine which I run Ubuntu on.
I use it primarily to run low-level scripts and/or batch scripts for site level backups for my servers.
I'd love to use the Mac Terminal for all of it, but since my MBP is my daily driver - I rely on the secondary machine.

I used win7 earlier but when they introduce the World's worst OS: WIN8; I left Windows.
"Sierra " is the best for me. I cant think about Win or any other OS now.

You are on the codes now. you can change everything which you want. customize anything. I think Ubuntu or other releases of Linux is much stable than another os. without lagging or hanging. Good choice, Enjoy!

Stability does seem to improve quite a bit
Something else that I learned was that apparently Ubuntu users have no real need for any antivirus! Thought that was interesting coming from Windows.

Ubuntu for my laptop, no. No, because of a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's 4K graphics driver sucks, especially if you have HiDPI display. The GUI does not scale properly, so I am forced to switch to Windows 10. Secondly, because I can't use Photoshop in Ubuntu. GIMP is NOT photoshop, it will never be..

No. Although I've been desperate to move away from Windows for over 20 years.
When Adobe software becomes available on it and when I can use VBA in MS Office, I'll switch immediately. Crossover and Wine are just too buggy.

Yes, I run a dual boot on my laptop with Windows. My main workstation is a 7 year old 21 inch Desktop Mac running Ubuntu and goes beyond my needs.

Have a hacked together windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 with grub bootloader. Ubuntu's broken now and about as slow as windows. Want to start screwing with headless remote browsing with cento os and Elinks.

If serious ubuntu was on debian kernel with more fancy sh**t to make it easier to adopt to adopts.... thats it..

i use windows 7 and i really like this system
i already use linux few years ago (ubuntu and mint) and i liked, the reason i dont use linux now is because i like to play games and some softwares i use only run on windows
i know linux have wine, but is not perfect yet (at least when i was using), so i only plan switch to linux then it run windows softwares
