Do you still create forum links for your website?

I have seen replies here mentioning that forum links are waste of time. Is it really so? Do you still create forum links for your website?

Maybe its waste of time Google ranking wise, but what makes you think referral traffic (which is targeted) coming from the forum to your website is not beneficial?

Blog commenting and directory submission is also considered dead these days. But I have seen people are doing that. In fact I myself created good quality blog comments for one of my website and I notice that those links (even though they are no-follow) got crawled and are appearing in my backlink profile showing their high DA.

So I am not jumping to any conclusion, but I want to say that its all up to you to decide if you still want to do Forum link submission. If you are able to get some high quality links from few handful forums then go for it, but do not overdo it.

Its your call though!

Don't use it directly on money sites. I usually suggest those links to use it as a tier 2 or tier 3 links.

I think its fine to use as long as you are focused on other aspects of link building such as niche edits, guest posts or pbns.

Forum links pass very low value, but they are good for link diversification. I've added them to my money sites and believe you just need to be very careful about not linking them from spammy sites.

Think of it this way. Sites such as semrush, moz, ahrefs get lots of recommendation from BHW/reddit and both are forum sites. Technically speaking all those sites are gaining benefits from these links anyway. Just don't focus on this a lot, as I say always links should look natural in the eyes of Google.

Just wanted to post the same comment. I guess not everyone reads the BHW newsletter, but that example illustrates well how those links can be used in a good way.

Who is investing time in tier 3 links manually? Forums links have to be made manually.

Sure! Forum backlinks should be built properly. Only manual link building.
If you know how to do that correctly - you will definitely see some improvements with low budget.
They're good for diversity, for low-competition keywords. It's an affordable option to build as much new referring domains as you need. For a long-term as well.

Every link type works if done well & plays an important role in your overall seo strategy.

I have also seen many people saying PBNs are dead, they don't work etc. So, are the PBNs dead & doesn't work?

If you know what you're doing every link type can help you, but if you have no clue what you're doing even the best link types won't work for you.

SEO is the name of trial & error and constant testing until you fine tune a strategy that works for you.

If you only follow just 1 basic thing, you will be successful more often than not. And that is: Instead of throwing random links at your site just try to do what your competitors are doing. Replicate First then make it better and you will rank more often than not.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.
