Title says it all, do you still need to build backlinks after you reached #1 spot? So you can stay legit under Google's eyes?

I would and i do. There are others just behind you trying to do the exact same thing and they wont stop till they rank #1 so keep going.

Yes , If the keyword is profitable and you have a lot of competition keep building back links . But if it's a low comp. long tail keyword that's not profitable , your time is probably better spent building back links some where else .

Yes, keep building them!

But dont go overboard with it, keep it natural. Make sure they are different and smiler to the niche.

You should never stop building them. Even if you've been at #1 for 10 years.

Always build backlinks no matter what position you are in. Over time links expire, they can lose page rank or a heap of other issues. Most links aren't forever and you will almost always have competitors so always build build build. Stability and longevity are the key to success.

It's like a race without end. You must still running even if you first, because others behind you runs still as well. Maybe one day your site will be so authoritative than noone can beat you :)

Of course you should. But, I think not as aggressive as you did earlier. It's the best chance for you to experiment though. Only if the keyword is mid or lower competitive.

If you want your site to maintain its position, you still need to continue backlinking. If Google sees your site on top for all the hard work, and then no more off page links are built, it's going to know that all the previous backlinks were artificial and will make your site look unnatural.

You should always be building backlinks or at least take some time now and then to do it. Trust me there is always someone who wants your spot and they are working on knocking you out.

I do it.... maintenance is also a very important factor, so you need to build links to stay on top.

Yes, if the competition is intense then a continuous backlinks are required.

Based on your competition but it is better to limit your backlinks and start adding some new contents to stay there at #1

Yes you should. I stopped building backlinks once and my site dropped from first page ranking.

It certainly depend on the niche, but it should appear more natural to G to continue building backlinks and not only that. Try to add more fresh and qualitative content to your site.
