Do you have to provide footage for your editor?

I’ve mostly edited my videos myself, but I’m at the point where I want to hire people to handle the more demanding tasks, like editing. Let’s say I have a channel focused on movies, fighting, or animals, and I mostly want images and footage to match the script. Should I search for all the clips I want included, or does the editor find them? Do I just list sources where the footage might be, like UFC, Planet Earth, or some other movie?

What about footage that can only be found through torrents? Downloading it myself just to send it to the editor seems exhausting. And if you’re describing a show, does the editor download episodes one by one?

Also, what is your process, if you can share?

It’s best to provide a clear script and decide upfront who’s responsible for sourcing properly licensed footage, since using unofficial sources can create serious issues for the channel
 
Usually you provide the script + rough direction, and a good editor sources legal stock/clip footage themselves

You should avoid torrents, copyright risk can hurt your channel
 
You can always ask the editor for approval before the video is submitted. Torrents are fine, but make sure the material is not copyright.
 
If your income allows it, or if you understand that by giving the video to an editor, you will earn more, then you definitely need to do it. If you're doing it just for the sake of doing it, then I don't know, you need some kind of goal and a clear result.
 
Provide the editor with clear guidelines on footage and sources. Some editors can find clips themselves, but for rare ones, give access or links. Avoid using torrent footage due to risks.
