Something I was thinking about today regarding on-site SEO. I do the usual H1 tags and sprinkle the keyword throughout the article, but do you guys take it to the next level and actually bold/italicize your keywords?

I know they say its supposed to be good for SEO, but I can just imagine a reader visiting my webpage thinking "WTF why is this phrase bolded/italicized throughout the article???" LOL.

Just curious to your thoughts if you think it adds any significant SEO benefits in your experience.

Thanks

Yes but I change how there displayed in the CSS works every time .

Key words matter more when used as anchor points but you can still get away not bolding or italic the word just male sure key word density is 2-3 percent that plus use anchor keyword text on page when linking to other pages on site this alone will boost on site rankings

When you bold/italicizes it's not every time the keyword appear in the article and also you should bold some other words other than the keyword
That way it won't look weird and it's very good for on page seo

Use the <strong> tag for that and you should do it to some of your KWs on your page in addition to <h1>, <h2> and <h3> tags.

Yeah i do it. Its a bit old-school to do it but it's something i started out doing so i still do it now. Whether it makes a difference or not i can't tell. I do it though. And no i don't think it looks weird. I used read articles that had the keyword bolded and to be honest i never really noticed it at all.

To be clear though - for good seo, its only necessary to bold the keyword(s) on their first appearance. You shouldn't be bolding every instance of them in the article. This DOES NOT help seo and YES that would look weird.

What I do if I think the bolded keyword isn't going to look right on the page is I bold an important sentence that has my keywords in it.

Yes, but its invisible to my readers. If you know how to work with CSS you're able to force it to be invisible. I use dreamweaver to help me out.

So is the bold better or the h1-h6 header tags? When I try the alexa IBP it rates that but not the bold text

For that sole reason I don't make my text fancy on my own webpage, but do that for articles/web 2.0 etc..

I do on micro sites that I don't care too much about aesthetics for.

I use H1 for the title.

H2 for the 2nd.

H3 for all other sub titles.

and Bold or strong for keywords.

underline links.
