Do you comment?

Spam is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it proactive SEO. Also, I try to make my comments relevant to the blog topic.

Ya obviously, anyone can follow this method to get backlinks ..

Yep, especially on blogs I follow out of personal interest.

of course it's spam and it's not very indicated to do that because they usually figure it out

It's not spam if your comments are relevant to that specific blog. I use scrapebox to create a list of blogs that will take comments and then check page rank and *do*follow - removing those with no page rank. I then manually post a very relevant comment that is almost always approved by blog owner. It is a great way to get backlinks with your desired anchor text on relevant sites.

as long as the blog's owner doesn't consider it spam, it isn't.

<cough>using post from 2006. to increase post counts...</cough>

Do you comment other people's blogs just to gain links to your site? Do you consider it spam?

I usually live comment on interesting post from huge blog site like mashable and allfacebook, I don't really expect to much traffic but just for sharing thoughts and online exposure.
