Do we pay too much for mobile phones ?

It usually comes down to marketing. Also companies tend to dumb down some phones when the new ones are out so that you are "forced to upgrade".

I think some phones cost more because people who like to be disconnected to reality have more money to spend. Phones make you miss out on the things around you such as nature or the animals, and hippies who live in nature and grow their own food have no money for phones, but people who live in the city do, so they can pay more to be disconnected from reality with higher speed or better resolution.

Sorry but higher price will mean higher quality here. Everyone knows it. Even people with shit phones.

Like I am sitting there with my iphone being profesisonal and polite, dealing with people and they're like 'my new oneplus is so amazing', 'oh it's so much better than your iphone because....' And i'm just sititng there listening to this crap, thinking aheah - yeah, dude you would snap up an iphone like nobody's business if you could afford one. Who are you trying to convince?

That being said, yeah half of it is branding and in that case it's a waste of power if all you've got an 11 pro max iphone and all you're doing is using some simple apps, making calls and really simple stuff.

People judge you by the phone you use ?. Where are you from ?. I come from a third world country and phone is not a thing to show off anymore. 10 years ago maybe.

My samsung phone cost $200, very good phone. No need to spend $1000 for an apple.

Depends on the age group in this case, the younger you are the more they will be inclined to.

Don't know which 'third world country' you're from but some of them are obsessed which counterfits, so maybe the sheer number of fakes is why? Dunno.

A $10 watch shows the same time as that of a $50k Rolex.

Why do people still buy Rolex? Because durability and quality. The $10 watch may stop working in 10 days while the Rolex may work for 50 years.

Ofcourse, they overcharge for sure, but usually the quality is better when the charge is more (compared to the lower value watch)- because they are accountable for it.

Otherwise no one would have bought it, simple as that.

Cheap Phones are definitely not the worst but more expensive Phones make my life way easier. I usually get the newest iPhone every two years and it made my life way easier and more fullfiling (MY opinion, please dont hate me)

Yes, phones are overpriced, but it is a big difference between cheap and expensive one!

I have an expensive one, not to expensive but...And i don't see this phone just as a phone, it's like my little helper :)
First, i root him then i use him for everything, everywhere and all the time, no gaming, and socials but for everything else, very useful gadget!!!
Let say pocket Pc.

PDA NET makes your phone bill worth it. Its a way to get INFINITY HOTSPOT......................... Your Welcome.... The $80 Phone bill becomes worth it and cancelling my internet services never felt so great! GOODBYE BRIGHTHOUSE

I got rid of my iPhone and bought one of those new Nokia 3310 phones. Went from £100 a month to £7.

Don't miss anything about my iPhone. Social media is something I can do on my computer and it's nice to leave emails at my desk each day!

Only think I do genuinely miss, is Google Maps and general Google searches for places when I'm on the road.

I had an iphone for like 6 years before I had to make the switch because the battery died. I went over to a cheap android phone and I really regret that decision because after a few months it caused me a lot of frustration. Since then I went back to an iPhone and I couldn't be happier. No lag, everything runs smoothly, and I'll probably use it for another 6 years or maybe longer if it doesn't die on me. Not saying that all cheap phones are bad, but the ones I used

I have a phone for $ 400, I can play any games and work, the quality of the screen and build at the level of flagships for $ 1000, the only thing I would like that the firmware was updated more often.

If her text doesn't come through as iMessage I'm not texting back
:):):)

She could be using an iphone 5 or one other older crappier iphone.

To the OP
Personally I think we pay for much more than the actual value of the phone. But a smartphone of $150 in my opinion wouldn't be enough, it'll be extremely slow and of poor build.

Been a Samsung guy for a while, I just feel iphones cost more than they actually offer. But still I'm considering trying it next, sure I'll be disappointed be the lack of extra features.

I'm using a $150 phone and it can do anything that $1000 can do. Yeah, the quality screen of $1000 phone is better, it runs a little bit faster but, in general. Most of the tasks you can do just fine with much cheaper phone right ?. Why people paying 6x higher price for the phone which some of them dont even need.
My guess: Marketing.

I mean sure, but people like nice things and it's the basis for liberal democracy, capitalism and the rules based order our civ lives in so, it's fine I guess?

$1,200 for the Note10+ at launch and then like a month later they were being sold brand new on eBay for $900..... smh, lesson learned.
