That is a really broad question. As with everything in SEO, it depends. How are the metrics of the sites? How many other outgoing links they have? Are the sites related to your niche or not? You can go on and on. If you have to ask this question, my advice would be to keep learning about SEO and link building. One thing I can recommend, however, is to stay away from do follow sitewide sidebar/footer links.

The main thing you need to remember is how natural is the link you are placing? For a web design agency you see footer links on just about every website out there linking back to the agency that built the site. It's a natural thing for them to do, and when I've been ranking for "web design" keywords, competitors with footer links from high authority website are hard to beat. So that tells me footer links are fine under the right circumstances.

HOWEVER - for the majority of cases, footer links just aren't natural and therefore should be avoided. Far better to get a good anchor link in the content body, especially an authority page like the homepage or a popular internal page.

Both Blog roll links & Footer links are Good as long as they are relevant & comes from reputable site.. But blog roll links appears on every page of the site are more likely to be paid ads, That looks unnatural to the eyes of Google,

Therefore people who aware about Google Update - stops buying blog roll links from PBN sellers..! Hence No service for blog roll links / footer links - From that you could understand, still it works or not.

I recommend you try Contextual link with use of unique article, instead of taking risk with blog roll / footer links - thanks,

Google views footer and sidebar links with a bit more suspicion than other link placements because they were at one time horribly abused. To make up for this you'll need to make sure that they are on highly relevant sites, and sites that aren't spammy. Essentially the bar is higher for these types of links because of their reputation for being sold links. A sidebar link on a spammy general niche site is probably pretty worthless, if not toxic.

sometimes there are extra relevant sites (made by us of course) that could link from several articles on site A to several articles on site B.

i guess id use a sitewide link from site A to site B homepage in this case, and then juice would spill on all important articles from homepage.

however i prefer to have more RD and less links from the same domains.
