Do internal links still make a big difference in rankings or just basic seo now

hello guys,

i’ve been trying to understand how much impact internal linking actually has in modern seo

i’ve read a lot of old guides saying it helps distribute authority and improve rankings, but i’m not sure if it still plays a strong role in 2026 or if it’s just a basic on-page thing now

i’ve built a few small sites where i did internal linking properly but didn’t see much noticeable difference in rankings

just curious if anyone here still sees real results from it or if external signals matter way more now

Internal links are still huge, especially for helping Google understand your site’s hierarchy. If you aren’t seeing a difference, it might be that your anchor texts are too generic or the linked pages aren't relevant enough to each other. When you link between related posts in a cluster, it definitely helps speed up indexing and keeps your authority flowing where it’s needed. :cool:
