i’ve been trying to understand how much impact internal linking actually has in modern seo

i’ve read a lot of old guides saying it helps distribute authority and improve rankings, but i’m not sure if it still plays a strong role in 2026 or if it’s just a basic on-page thing now

i’ve built a few small sites where i did internal linking properly but didn’t see much noticeable difference in rankings
