Do image links count for seo?

It is difficult to say. But if you are talking about forum signature link, then go for do-follow links. Search for do-follow forums and be an established member on those forums. Then, you can use signature link. Do-follow links will help to get ranked on Google.

I'm sure if you're not excessively linking images then it won't harm your rankings.

Images are great when properly named and marked! A diverse quality link set is a good link set.

Of course OP, you bet they count. Ask Expedia and Trip Advisor why they have so many widget links.

When i'm looking for an answer to something, i love coming across one of your more "decent" answers :)

They definitely count. They are brilliant links to have to water down your anchors and it's something a bit "different". With link building the actual power-pushing keyword heavy links are only one part of it, because you need to keep your anchor diversity under control and maintain a natural looking profile. I spend more time trying to build links to things OTHER than my keyword than I spend building links to my keyword and LSIs. Sometimes I even have to get people to change the anchor from my keyword to something else because the anchor profile is starting to get a bit KW heavy.

Try to think of the User Experience and Accessibility (That's what Google wants you to do).

If you do decide to use an image that has some information in it that is useful, make sure you:

1. Alt tag it
2. Transcribe any useful information information from the image in simple text. (making your content "accessible")

Yes, the use of rich content types is a Google Ranking Factor but just throwing up images for the sake of images might have the opposite effect.

On a busy forum, you can get your own visitors directly.
So your task is to use/ test images that deliver eyeballs.
Just keep a balance on incoming links to your target sitem from other site linkining to you.
You need to develop a mix
