Do Google updates hit homepage heavy link profiles harder?

I’ve noticed sites with most of their links pointing to the homepage seem to take bigger hits during updates. I’m starting to spread links more evenly across inner pages and blog content. Has anyone else seen a pattern like that, or maybe the algo just evolved again? What’s your insight on this?
