With SEO constantly changing .I have been wondering how important backlinks really are today. Earlier they were considered one of the strongest ranking factors , but now with better ontent system and AI driven search updates , I see mixed opinions.

for those actively blogging right now, Do you still focus heavily on building backlinks .

would love to hear real world experineces.

Yes of course backlinks still matter for blog success. You see google was build on top of the backlinks. Without backlinks there is no google.
The little ai summary you see in serp results thats summary from the below top 10. It's not generative ai but a summary of top 10 results. It's not new information.
Bing openly asks to build backlinks.

Yes, backlinks still matter but I do not focus on getting many backlinks. According to me, few relevant and high quality backlinks usually helps more as compared to a large number of low quality backlinks.

Backlinks still matter, but quality is far more important than quantity. I focus more on creating helpful content and earning relevant backlinks naturally instead of chasing lots of links.

Backlinks still seem to be a debated topic in 2026. From your experience, do they still play a major role in ranking new blogs, or has content quality and topical authority become more important compared to traditional link-building strategies

yes ,It matters but they are not the only thing that moves rankings anymore. it is better to aim for a new relevant , high quality links and spend most effort on content that actually deserves to rank.

Backlinks still play a role, just not like they used to when they were everything, strong content and clear topic focus can take you pretty far on their own now, but in tougher niches you still see the difference when someone has real, relevant links pointing in.

I still see backlinks making a difference but only when they're relevant. God content and a few quality links have worked better than chasing large number.

yeah backlinks still matter in 2026 but not like before, now good content + user intent is more important, backlinks just help boost trust and speed up rankings a bit.

I will actually still treat backlinks as important, but I wouldn't make them the main focus. Put most of your effort into creating content people actually want to read, then earn relevant, quality links over time. A few strong natural backlinks usually bring better long-term results than chasing a large number of low-value ones.

Backlinks still matter but I don't see them as the only ranking factor anymore Strong content relevance and a natural backlink profile tend to work best

Backlinks still matter, but quality and relevance beat quantity now. I focus on publishing useful content first, then earn links naturally and through selective outreach.

Backlinks still matter for rankings, but they are not enough by themselves any more. Nowadays content quality, what people actually want when they search, topical authority, and EEAT start to carry a lot more weight. I still work on backlinks, but I try to earn fitting, high-quality links instead of chasing huge amounts. From my own experience, pairing strong content with a handful of authoritative references tends to work better over time than relying only on link building.

Backlinks still help, but I don't chase them like I used to. I focus on publishing genuinely useful content first and the quality backlinks come naturally over time, which has worked better for long-term rankings.

I build backlinks still but not as aggressively as I used to. Good content is the main game while quality backlinks are something which help move competitive keywordss higher.

Yes, backlink building is still matters. I consistently creating backlinks for my site and insert them on relevant keyword in blog.

I still focus on backlinks, but more on quality than quantity. A few relevant links from real sites work better than many low quality ones.

Yes, they still matter. You need references from other websites in the same niche to help Google understand what your website is about and build trust.

One thing I'd criticize is chasing backlinks from any site you can find. A few relevant links from websites in your niche are usually far more valuable than dozens of random ones.

from what i have seen backlinks still matter but they are not enough on their own high quality content good internal linking and a solid user experience are just as important now i focus on earning a few relevant quality backlinks instead of chasing large numbers because those have given better long term results
