Couldn't explain it better. Plus, you have NO IDEA who the proxy owners are or what they do with all the traffic passing through them. They could be sniffing for *anything*, including all kind of accounts, data mining, profiling...

I don't think it can exploit the NAT per se, but an intelligent(ly programmed) enough malware could, in theory, detect it's running inside a virtualized environmet, say, VMWare, and use facilities in place to access the host machine (remember how you can drag and drop between client vmachine and host via vmtools?). Maybe something like that, but how likely it is, I have no idea. I'd say you're on the safe side. Just remember to use restore point images and all should be good.
