Do 301 Redirects Still Pass Backlinks?

Some of you know Kyle Rudolph. He runs SEO Intelligence Agency. Membership required. They run tests on different SEO theories each month to prove or disprove them. Attached is a copy of their Sept report where he shows that not only do 301 redirects still work, but they do NOT have to be in the same niche.

People are seeing different results because this is how I think a 301 works:
Link juice: It does get passed but diminishingly.
Mentions: You lose these
Rankings: Google considers the page that you have 301 to as a replacement for the keywords the original page was ranking for when it notices the redirect. Then based on the new article, anything can happen.

Hi, Buddy. How does your expired domain name 301 redirect work now?
My expired domain 301 redirect was indexed by Google yesterday (site: domain.com), but the keyword ranking has not seen a change
 
no change in serp so i now changed the redirect to homepage. Earlier it was directly to a category. It did not worked for me. Anyway i have changed it to homepage.

Both sites are niche relevant ?
 
They still work as long as the domain is relevant to your niche, I am still using them, granted sometimes results will be mixed but that is not a 2020 issue.

Hi, After your index is successful, will you see results within a few days?
 
The expired domain i used for redirecting is non-relevant . I think this is why it did not worked.

What procedure you follow to do 301? i mean, just buy an expired domain and redirect it from register level or you do post some content for a while and then redirect it?

I have redirected a premium expired domain to my niche website. It has nearly 200 RDs, many of which are of high quality. The expired domain name has been indexed by Google 3 days ago (after the site:expired.com, the expired domain name Name shows my niche site), 3 days have passed, but my niche site ranking has not changed.
 
After 3 months I see decent dancing on 2 websites. I`m not a fan of 301 but it looks like works, at least for me. I am happy with investment and ROI.

Make sure you do 301 properly not all to the homepage or a specific URL, but similar to many.

How is your ranking now?
After 301 redirects were indexed by Google, within a few days your rankings started to change? It's been 3 days since my 301 redirect was successfully indexed by Google and I haven't seen changes
