Has anyone tried 301 in 2020? I am wondering if it still pass link juice.
Thanks

Yes it still does, and most likely always will as companies change their names, domains for thus reasons it still be needed.

However, the question you're trying to do is "if it's still working".

No one can really give the correct answer, as sometimes it can push the rankings and sometimes it will tank the site.

It is preferred that you 301 within niche relevant domains to have a higher chance of working. Another way, which did work for me, is to create a page on the new site related to the old domain that we will 301, and 301 the domain to that page. Then making sure to link out from that page to important pages like homepage.

DON'T do it if is not really needed. I making redirect 301 every day or two (movie niche, isp blocking or dmca on homepage). Worked well till december but in jannuary something changed and i can't get back my rankings even after 10 days (before december if made well the redirect 301 needed 6/12 hours to change domain in serps)

Lost keyword with 5M monthly traffic from 1st to 70th position! Avoid 301!!

will always work all your doing is fowarding traffic from a domain.

how to do that? I mean change of address in google search console. & Is it necessary to do so?

They work but they cause disruptions. I did it for a large section of my site in November. Rankings are only getting back to normal now but still haven't gotten back the #1 spot I had for a few.

301 redirects works pretty good, if you have done it properly. If the sites are relevant it does passes site credibility(not 100%) and redirect visitors to new site.
Avoid multiple redirect to a site.
If it not necessary then don't redirect it.

yes it is necessary just google it change of address search console

I tried it with a very relevant domain to my niche, had clean backlinks profile and when i did the 301 it tanked my website rankings to second page, removed the 301 and it went back to top 5.
For me it didn't work well, but you can't be sure unless you try it yourself.

I am using siteground and there is an option in cpanel ( new cpanel) as redirects. I used that option and it is clearly redirecting to my other site. Is it good or i need to do only with htacess file?

The redirecting option is showing as it is a permanent redirect.

How long it took (after removing the 301) for the website to go back to the top 5? A week? Two weeks?

After a 301 redirect, did your niche website keyword ranking improve? I am also planning to make an expired domain name 301 redirect for my niche website recently. Not sure about the effect? Ps: i also use siteground
