Dude, since you mention this project is long term one, then don't chose the sape route, once you stop your subscription you will lose all the link juice passed down to your buffer.. Go with the pbn route, make sure the pbn you will be getting is a permanent one with good metric, that way you don't get to lose the juice on your buffer site...

It depends on your ROI, if you're buying links and paying $500 a month but making profit of $1000 a month, then SAPE would be the way to go, for the strength of these links.
I'd say that the first month you're not making your $1000 a month profit, you'd re-assess the SAPE links and if the second month on the bounce you're not making a decent profit, then you consider moving away or flipping the site.

If you're ranking for your niche and aren't earning more than $100 a month then you sure as hell are in the wrong niche...

Cheap PBN posts should only be used for anchor diversity IMO. Go with SAPE.
If you do it right, you can point them directly at your money site and never get penalized. I use them like that sometimes, but they are part of my overall strategy and only used as a booster. They are not my main links. So it's a different story.

LOL, absolutely true, but if you can get the same results at a cheaper price or better results at the same price, why not? Never hurts to optimize you ROI.
How about sending sape to social media like FB or YT?

Haven't tried either but it could help juicing posts.
I am not talking about public pbns here but private one and juicing a specific post if not the entire pbn.
Imagine this:
You have 30 pbn links ,you already rank #3 & make $1000/month
You buy 100 sape links to those 30 pbn links for about $100/month. You move up to #1 with little help and your blog now makes $2,000 (assuming that you will rank for long tails as well and increase overall authority)
It's a nice roi if you ask + you don't risk losing your site because pbn acts as a layer of safety
