So I think I've pretty much watched just about every single relevant Youtube video on FB ads, and wanted to start a friendly discussion about one of the topics that's debated a lot - whether to simply keep increasing the daily budget of one ad set in order to scale it, or create multiple duplicates of it.

Personally, I haven't started actually using FB ads yet so I don't have any experience but from what I have learned from others I think I like the sound of just increasing the budget of a single ad set rather than try and create a whole bunch of them. For example, starting at $5-10 and then increasing it by $5 every few days until it gets to around $30-40 and once its at that level, increasing by 20% every few days until it dies.

How do you guys like to scale your ads?

I'd like this to be a FRIENDLY discussion just talking about each others experiences/preferences with each method and the pros and cons of both, not a "my way or no way" kind of thing. So keep it civil!

I'm not an expert, I just dabble, but I'd think the increasing budget would be better (assuming the ad is good). From what I've read, high levels of engagement drive the overall CPC down for an ad, so by duplicating it, you're forcing each one to start from 0. I'd imagine that would mean a higher CPC overall. I'm curious to see what others have to say.

I always thought the same thing. It seems logical that duplicating an ad would be less effective since each one would have to go through optimization all over again. But then again, FB doesn't exactly run on logical rules so that's why I wanted to get a discussion going to see other's points of views from their experience.

yes, guys, you need to go slowly, start with engagement campaigns and $2/day, run it for 1 week, then make a post with external link, and run ads with external link for 5 days. then you can turn on your cloaker

To get to your question, let me touch on something first. Firstly the worst idea is to start on a $5 a day budget. All BS aside, irrespective of the campaign objective you choose it all boils down to your actual CPA, How much are you paying to acquire a new customer. Starting with 5 bucks not only makes it hard to optimize, but leaves room for cutting the campaign out to early. I have seen CPA ranges from $6 all the way up to $30 for eCommerce type of campaigns. So it only makes sense to have a descent and logical plan when starting a campaign with a descent budget not $5 a day. Say $50 a day and then once you start seeing some conversions hit the FB pixel, start a conversions campaign. Rather than increasing the budget or duplicating the adset, just focus on conversions and then slowly increase the conversions campaign daily budget.

Two things works for me:
1. Increase daily budget by 10-15% daily. This way, I don't mess with their algo
2. Dup adsets. I use this method a lot more than #1.

you test your ads and increase the ones that perform the best.

very careful when increasing daily ad budget on those winners, if you increase by 50% or 100%, you're changing their algo. the result? you're asking for FB to reset their algo to ''learn'' your adsets. Increase with small amount daily is teh answer.

just duplicate the adsets, using a lil bit different targeting
