Difficulty with getting content for my niche.

Hey there people.

Recently I've created a new site for a non-English speaking country, but I'm having some difficulty.
Thing is that I don't know shi* about the niche I chose, it never was an interest of mine.

The reason I created it is that the country I created it for doesn't have many sites in this niche, there is actually just one big site, but it's ugly and the guy takes too long to update it, so I thought it would be a good idea to try to take this guys crown.

I wanted to ask you guys the following,
Since I don't have any knowledge in the niche and there are a ton of "technical" terms I need to write about in the articles, and all my content is being translated from English websites, is there something I am doing wrong?

Should I still pursue a niche I am having difficulty to write about?
Should I risk copying the content from my native language, seeing that this guy is practically the only person I can copy stuff from. Can he take my stuff down if he claims I am a hack?

Have you done your KW research to see if it is worth aiming for? Maybe the reason that there is no or little comp is because there are no monthly searches for the KW.
You could take the content from English sites and rewrite it after translating it. Don't just use a search engine translator and try to rank for it. Make it readable and interesting as much as possible.
How do you plan on monetizing it? You may find that if your plan is to use Adsense, the CPC may be VERY low for you KW.
 
The KW is good, well the country in question is Brazil. It may sound strange but, try to see it i the following manner.
The internet here today is what the internet was for the English speaker 7+ years ago.

Content is stupidly low for almost anything. You can`t find anything you look for in Portuguese, it pretty pathetic.

For people to better understand my problem try to see it in the following manner.
Let`s say you have a video game website (not my niche) but your knowledge of the subject is extremely basic. You know what Mario is, but you don`t know what the word platformer means within this context.

I`m having this kind of problem. I know my way around the English language, but I`m trying to speak about something I don`t know anything about, so the more technical terms are already hard to grasp in English, so imagine trying to translate them and write cohesive articles.

You could try to study the information on the other sites in your niche and write better articles than them, or if there is any content offline about your niche, you can upload that content to your website (alternatively, studying the offline content will help).

As for the language issue, you can work with someone who can translate English into Portuguese, although expect to pay them for their work.
 
Slightly off topic but reading this thread makes me think about web marketers whose native tongue isn't English. Rather than being held back by not being a native English speaker, many have an opportunity that us English speakers don't have. So like Savant says above, Brazil is 7 years behind-what an oportunity that is for a Portuguese speaker.

If you have the time to study things up and learn more about the niche, do it. Otherwise, outsource that work (if you have a good budget ofc).
 
I have a site that contains very technical terms and information that when i started i knew nothing about how to express it properly, yet after a couple of years of writing for the site, i am now getting the hang of the lingo. If i done more articles i would have got there sooner, so take this into account. You don't have to be the best right away.
 
Unless it is medical or something like that I think you could do very well if you go to high quality ENGLISH sites in your niche and translate the info into Portuguese. Basically the differences in the 2 languages mean the translation will be like a unique rewrite anyway.

That way you have higher quality stuff than your competitor and it will sound like you know what you are talking about.

If you have a bit of money to invest head over to job sites and hire English to Portuguese translators to help / do it for you.

Thanks for the tips guys, actually after creating this thread I maned up and stayed almost the entire afternoon busting my balls to write the articles. I`ll admit that I took way longer than I expected, but I was able to see a bit of what Panther28 meant on his post. I saw that it is possible to learn this thing. It will take a long time before I can write my own stuff, but I think I`ll make it.
 
I guess I would suggest hiring someone to do it for you. In the long run it might help you out greatly.
 
I don't know much about your niche so can only give limited advice.

You could either write the content yourself and use English sites for research, or hire a native English speaker and then have the content translated afterwards.

If you can't find information on your niche online, then do the same thing that journalists and other writers do: contact an industry-leader and get an interview, or at least a bit of information.
 
you need to think properly before starting website otherwise it ll be time wasted work nothing else.

Choose only those niche for website on which you can write so much.

Back in 2011 I wrote a tutorial on how I do KW research and the first thing I do is:

First thing I did was to open a notepad file and type a lot of ideas for KWs that would normally come to me...

You need to have a working knowledge of any site that you are thinking of building out long term and the above is the basis of KW research. No knowledge of the subject usually means bail on it and choose another niche.

Others have said the same thing as to using notepad or other to get KWs, some very recently even, and I teach that when I teach others on a face to face leve.
 
mate you can get more number of content writers in the market place you can choose the best one
 
Turning to a niche you don't know much about is always a problem. I would suggest looking into hiring someone to do the work for you rather than trying to do it yourself if you are not that knowledgeable.
 
Wow! I am amazed of your guts to take down someone's crown and I admire your resolution to see this through. This doesn't sound easy and yet you have managed to do something about it. I guess, I have no tips to offer because others have said it already. The only thing i could do is wish you luck.

BTW.

Why not leave difficult terms instead of translating them to your language. You can just add explanations or illustrations.
 
Takes a lot to take on something you are not 100% knowledgeable in however if you really feel you are not able to write the content yourself I would hire someone to do the work for you, that leaves you time to be able to work on other things.

I would still suggest that you rewrite the stuff even if it has not been online as this is stealing and not right. Rewrite it to make it your own or pay someone to do it.

You're right, the text is copyrighted content, so spinning it is certainly a better route than uploading it verbatim.
 
The way I see it, you have two possibilities:

* Either learn more about your niche and write better articles than competition or
* Hire someone to write awesome articles for you. In this case, you should calculate does this pays off to you, that is can you earn enough money to pay the writers and still make profit.
