Difference between PBN and quality Web 2.0s?

This is mostly just a curiosity question. I've had quite a bit of experience building long term Web 2.0 networks and a couple months ago started building a PBN from scratch (meaning without using expired domains). But so far I'm not really seeing the difference.

For example, my understanding of creating a PBN is to create a handful of blogs, let them age, handwritten articles added weekly, multiple pages, images, videos, then when it's fully formed, drop an article with your link. Then juice them up with quality links and build DA/TF.

But when I build web 2.0s for my tier 1 backlinks, this is exactly what I do. So what's the main difference between them? Is it just that I've been building PBNs the whole time without realizing it? Or am I missing something critical?

"PBN from scratch (meaning without using expired domains)" - I stopped reading there. That's your mistake, you use new domains

The main idea of PBNs is to use aged domains with a strong BL profile that have a lot of linkjuice to pass to your money sites. New domains for PBNs are useless.

A PBN network is a lot more risky to use compared to an established, web 2.0, as it is more likely for your PBN to get shutdown (assuming it isn't properly setup and doesn't look like a small niche blog) than a web 2.0 that has a few posts here and there, as a lot of web 2.0's only have a few posts here and there. It doesn't stop there. A PBN with fairly decent metrics, 50+ RD, 20+ TF/CF, will likely give you a lot more link juice compared to a web 2.0 with a few quality links.

With all due respect, how can you even ask about the difference between PBN and web 2.0s, when you are trying to sail from Southampton to New York on a paper boat?

Network of web 2.0s will never have the amount of power that PBN domains hold. You can try as much as you can, but even the most average PBN domains will still be much stronger than any well built web 2.0s.

Web 2.0s are obviously easier to handle, smaller expenses, but can be deleted anytime + the firepower they provide is just a really measly percentage compared to an average domain.

Also, you will never rank even medium easy keyword with just web 2.0s. Ever.

You can do web2.0's as a "network" but they are nowhere near the same as full websites that make a PBN. A PBN can be stronger than web2.0's but honestly you should be building both... its not an either or choice. That is like saying should I brush my teeth or take a shower today? Both. And then some.

I understand the PBNs are stronger but isn't that only because the expired domain is already developed? If you built a backlink profile similar to one on a strong expired domain pointed to your WordPress property, why wouldn't it gain the same power over time that the expired domain has?

and how much work should there be in? and how long should those links age?

there is your answer.

if there is #1 thing I found out by CASE STUDYS the last months: there more $$$ a backlink cost (the more hours of work it is put into) the more it helps you rank.

luckily, on most keywords, you dont need high powered TF20+ homepage posts

The only difference is web 2.0s almost useless and PBN is working good.

It's really a matter of safety. PBN's are more powerful but riskier. Web 2.0s lack the power of a PBN but they're safer.

IMO PBN is chain of web 2.0 links and web 2.0 link is single link.
I used PBN but did not give good results may be because of bad service but 10-15 web 2.0 links gave me good results.
