difference between organic traffic and direct traffic?

Direct - People clicking directly on your link and entering the website.
Organic - People searching a specific keyword, which is related to your website and clicking on it.

okay so, this site is about selling premium courses.
if i type a keyword for a course in the google, and the site pops up, is that a direct traffic or organic traffic?

No, basicly traffic from backlinks is organic as well. Direct traffic is one, that calls one of your urls directly. It's mostly bot traffic, in general - if you'r not amazon =D
edit: in general - in this image, they splitted organic in organic searches and referrals.

that's organic, of course. I just told you that anything that involves search engines (and google is a search engine) is organic traffic

Sorry, I had to edit my post, I didn't read right =D
Organic traffic is split into organic search traffic and referals in this case.
Basicly you can say, that traffic lead to you from other sources (Social Media, Search Engines, Links) is organic, it's indirect and not artifical (like ads, redirects, etc).
You can check it by the referrer, that comes with the request in general.

what are some ways to generate this traffic? through social media? but it anyways shows social media as one of the traffic generation methods. what is the source then? pls tell

Direct Traffic: typing the website URL in the browser directly and coming in.
Organic traffic: Comes from the search engine organic results for a particular keyword, not paid results.
Referral Traffic: Traffic comes from all the social networks and from backlinks.
