Developer is refusing to remove his website link from the footer

Hey guys,

So, I hired a company to develop a platform. Now that the platform is ready, the company has added their website link at the footer of my platform. I asked them to remove it but they're saying that it's mandatory that I allow them to add that link. This all sounds pretty non-sensical. So, I just want to confirm this from you guys. Thanks!

You can remove it yourself or? You obviously should have FULL access to your files/source code
 
Just pay someone on Fiverr or somewhere cheap to remove it if you don't know how to do it yourseld unless it's written in a contrat that you signed or accepted.
 
Why do you even need to ask that guy?

I can but since I'm put them in charge to manage all the development in the future as well

If this is the case you are scared that they do something bad, better not to do business with them

Three things you can do
1. Remove it yourself or ask someone (If it's WordPress it's easy)
2. Tell them to pay
3. Threaten them, if they don't want to pay, Do a charge back :):):)

It's simple.

You will call them and say you are charging for any external link on your site and they need to pay you up.

I m sure they would remove the link to avoid any form of embarrassment.
 
Tell them to suck your pp and go do business with another company.

1. Get full control of your site.
2. Copy all code and back it up somewhere. Hire someone to do that if you're not a dev.
3. Tell them that if they want to continue providing more work for you, you do not accept that they are going to have anything in the footer. Tell them that is the only way you will proceed.
4. If they agree, allow them to develop the site. If they try anything, you have the code backed up and can tell them to piss off.

Always secure your code in any circumstance. If it's a website, alway maintain sole control over the domain, and ideally control the server/hosting with a master account, providing them a sub-admin account.

There is definitely no law about footer links
 
Footer links offer next to nothing as to SEO benefit and the click through rate will be next to zero.

That being said, once you have the site under your control send them packing.
 
You can access off ( cpanel ) from the web developer, and hire someone to remove the link from the footer.

Lol maybe if it's a crappy PHP site. Realistically if it's made in React or Python, it would be best to update the Github repo and push it to production.

I've permitted him to add his (no-follow) link in the about section (Because I can't afford any troubles at this point) for the time being and he has agreed to it. There's still some development work left so once everything is ready, I'll get my own team on work and remove that link from the about section.
