If my webpage does not have description meta tag, then search engine scans for relevant content and automatically assigns it to my webpage's description in SERPs.

Question:

What is the word range of scan? I heard that search engine scans first 150 words and i heard that it can scan whole page for relevant content.

150 words that was some time ago now se crawlers can handle much more.

Are you sure they handle more?
And do they only take first paragraph or take relevant paragraph for description?

To make the snippet, they use a part or parts of the page that they deem relevant to the search query. Normally they weight the first part of the page more heavily (because info early in the page is deemed more important) but it can come from anywhere on the page.
