Dell XPS or Asus Zenbook

Thinking of getting a Lappy in a few months time and I am in a dilemma of which one to choose between XPS and Zenbook

I am looking for performance (RAM and SSD especially the new NVMe) and good battery backup is always a plus

I have a budget of $2k

@davids355 @HoNeYBiRD can suggest I am have done my digging but you know all those reviews online are kinda confusing

In my personal experience, they last alot longer

Dell on the other hand, feels cheap & plasticy. I also don't like their screen color palette either

Of course, you have to still look at the specs in both, but, brand overall. Asus > Dell
 
I have Dell for both of my computers (desktop and Laptop). I never ran into any problems with either one and the support was really good. I got it a few years ago and it's an XPS 15 9550. Also, I would suggest getting a cooling fan as the laptops can get hot from time to time. Lastly, I would go with Dell.
 
I'm not sure, if brandnames matter much anymore. It's more like personal preference at this point. Dell has a good name, Asus improved a lot. Probably 10-15 years ago i wouldn't have considered to buy an Asus, now i would, if it's the better bang for the buck.

If you already have candidates in mind, on notebookcheck.net you can compare the exact processor and GPU models objectively. The amount of RAM shouldn't be a breaking point, because that's expandable.

If you can find unbiased video reviews on Youtube, those are always a good idea to watch before purchase. If you can go to a showroom offline, go see them personally. Because the screen, build quality can only be experienced in person. (If you want to use it as a desktop and don't want to carry it around, build quality won't be that important.)

If you look for direct comparison, you can find several. I checked a few out of the top results and from the looks of it, they suggest the Dell:

Another interesting read, how the two machines handle the CPU clock rates with temperature changes:
"...Asus has taken a traditional approach where CPU clock rates would boost as high as it can when under load before eventually hitting a pre-defined temperature ceiling and then falling and stabilizing at a fixed clock rate and temperature."
"Dell's approach is much more dynamic. Called Dynamic Power Policy, CPU clock rates would cycle up and down depending on core temperature with the goal of squeezing more performance out of the processor."

Do you have the latest model?

I am looking for something that has 16GB RAM that is like the base. I saw a model online but it seems like it's available for US peeps as of now
 
Seems like Dell XPS is the clear winner here

Dell XPS 15 seems more popular and the 11th generation one has just been launched

I wonder if its available for sale in India with all the Dell showrooms closed if anyone can chime in and that they have purchased the XPS 15 the latest one
 
Asus is long lasting i think using one from last 11 Years
 
With that budget, which is almost 1.5 lac, you can easily get a well configured dell on their website.

Go and chose the configurations you need and keep deleting what you don't need till it comes down to your budget.
 
I have had similar experience with Dell and Asus. Both with the machines as well as after sales service. Not professional laptops of course but they are both good. You can go with the one offering more value for money.
Btw if your work doesn't involve heavy tasks like editing or programming then both Zenbook and XPS would be an overkill. Don't go after fancy specs if not required.

MacBook out of the equation as many of the softwares that I have do not support plus people telling to install some software which will help me run them on Mac

neither - take a look at lenovo carbon 9th generation. or if you want really light, check lenovo nano
