Hey,

What's your recommendations for a good dedicated server?
Something like i5/i7 16/32gb +1G Bandwidth running on windows OS on EU with a decent DDOS mitigation system.

It's for whitehat purposes, just don't want to get ddos all the time by competitors.

Let me know.

Cheers

Their ddos system is not that good. (Annexed attack at one my servers)
For a free one - it's one of the best you can get.

There is a chance that mitigation is not triggered if the attack is too small, have you tried custom firewalls? OVh firewall is pretty cool as well if you get used to it.

What's the game name you host there? GTA multiplayer?

Well with that attack I even lost connect server connect through windows remote lmao.

Nice catch on the game, that one I used to host a big FiveM server.

Did you receive a report from OVH about the attack? If you lose connection it might be that they nulled your main IP, it's recommended to have multiple IP addresses you can use. I don't know how GTA works but if you can connect through domain then you could set up IP address rotation so there are at least a few of them and if one gets attacked, it gets nulled and it affects only a part of the community.

You could try to limit how many connections are made from a single IP address as well but to be careful not to go too low so it does not mess with the game itself. Same for bandwidth allocation per client, etc.

I see xampp, I wouldn't advise hosting web and game servers on the same machine, it opens up doors to attackers, in this case - you want to close down as much as possible.

The thing with these attacks is that they usually are time-based, if you hold your ground for enough time - attackers will move to easier targets.

Their report/answer to my ticket was "We need to have a ddos system by law, but it does not mean it have to work against every attack" big lmao.

I kinda understand their answer but still sounds bad.

Yeah, they mainly use stressers and normally ovh have a protection for it but some stressers have a whats so called "ovh bypass" what means their botnet it's actually inside ovh servers and ovh ip filter dont filter calls from their own ip's what makes it a bypass apparently.

Uhh, you can forget about using OVH support, they are so cheap because they have no support. I left to Hetzner when I couldn't stand anymore their stupidity and lack of interest to help. I still use OVH but for smaller projects, they still have great perks - e.g. free IP addresses.

One thing you could do is try to block IP subnets you get attacks from in your firewall(OVH firewall, not the windows).

What I wanted to say, try to use firewall they provide, its actually pretty good, for most of the times - I could prevent my game servers from being attacked.

How it's Hetzner?

they answer tickets the same working day.

They have ddos protection as well but I don't know how good it is, Im out of the gaming stuff for years already.

There are white people answering the tickets tho so the chance you will get a real technician who will know how to help you is significantly higher.

Sounds good, I'll give it a try.

I use namecheap dedi servers plus cloudflare and ddos guard

Use cloudflare firewall rules to block important parts on your ip adress like main files that they would attack, use under attack mode, or js challeng ein firewall rules for attacks that go directly to the server ip and then in your dns settings for cl9udflare put ddos guard ip that points to ddos guard (ddos guard and cloudflare got free plans both and ddos one gives you free ip adres) and in ddos guard put your ip adres. This will protect you from most of ddos attacks.
