Decrease spam by setting "limits" for new accounts

A lot of knowledge and interesting stuff on this forum. However, a lot of time consuming and unnecessary posting as well - which is impossible to dodge, of course. But perhaps we could minimize it.

Problem 1
A lot of new users post spam one-liners. Not only "good luck" in every thread, but also "how did you do this sir?" and other nonsense - just to boost their post count.

Problem 2
A lot of new users create threads like "what is black hat seo" and "how do i earn links". The quality of the forum gets lower when threads like this always pop up. Newbie questions are alright, but come on, there are "please read"-posts in almost every forum section that would answer these questions.

These people create an account here, posts some rubbish thread or post to either boost post count or to get quick instructions on how to make money fast. Then they disappear after a day or a week.

My suggestion
You must have been registered 1 or 2 weeks before you are able to create a thread.
You must have been registered 3 or 4 days before you can post in the forum.

I think this would filter out a lot of users who are just here for spam or to get "get rich quick"-instructions and then disappear. I think it would help increase quality.

I was going to post the same. They can be super annoying although I admit it can be tough to filter all.

I like how Builder Society formatted theirs. There is an Orientation section, similar to a new member section. This is the only place where new member can post until they get to three "likes". Once they get there, they can post elsewhere. I think a mixture of that plus having a fifteen-day or fifteen-post limit before creating threads, plus amping the posts required to PM to 50, would really assist in cutting down on spam.

However, this would also be a huge turnoff for new members who might be looking to sell in the future on BHW. While I understand that this is a community and should be kept as neat and organized as possible, it is also a business, and @Diamond Damien and crew run it as such.

I complain about and report spam frequently. The truth of the matter, though, is that BHW is far less spammy than the other large public IM/SEO boards.

I think it may be good to make the system more like oriented, like you cant create a thread unless you have X likes, so then people will post quality content so they get likes or if they are new they can post some quality questions related to the thread not "how do i make money?"

This has been suggested before. BHW doesn't want to limit everyone because of the exceptions. One of the great things about this forum is how free it is.

Start placing too many rules and you become WMW and die.

An admin once told me about implementing a "nursery section" here in the future. I won't go into too much detail about it, but the way they described it, I thought it was a good idea that alleviated my feelings on restricting new members.

I agree. I've mentioned being opposed to the idea of restricting new members too much before as well.

When you see avatars with blatant promotions in them, report them. I've already removed the avatars for the accounts you listed.
