Dealing With Negative Feedback

Hey all,

So about 2 weeks ago I decided to make a website about a subject I'm passionate about. To be honest I'm not an expert in the niche or anything, but I try to study it as much as I can to create unique and meaningful content.

I've been advertising this on the respective subreddit and have just been bombarded with negative feedback. If I don't post here I would see almost no traffic at all - if I do I just get downvoted and shit on.

This website is extremely new but obviously the feedback is extremely demoralising and makes me question my own knowledge on the subject. When do I call it quits and move onto something else? I'm not really doing this for the money, but obviously I am trying to monetise the whole thing.

Advice?

Ignore the negative stuff and power forward.

I'd also close comments on your site if you have them open.
 
redditors are the biggest megalomaniacs on this planet, circlejerk about how awesome they are (indirectly) and you are bound to get many visitors on your websites coupled with a few gildings, it would be best to make a new account or buy an aged one as these geniuses are vindictive when it comes to bullying someone they labeled as 'uninformative'

No one really interracts with the site (comments, etc.). I get an average of ~150-200 views a day which considering this is about a 2 week old website I think is an achievement. According to Google Analytics I have something like 10% returning viewers lol. I could ignore the negative feedback which is no problem, but do you think this reputation will effect the content I put out?

Yes, they are. They complain about every single little detail and they all jerk off with Doritos crumbs in their dirty fingernails. Unfortunately for me my niche heavily relies on this demographic. lol.
 
Simply because you are not in the click. If you were in the click then it would be reversed no matter what you wrote. You need to build up your presence first, then offer your advice. If you do it backwards, you are likely to lose your credibility, and make it harder to gain.

Here's the real deal about Reddit:

Marketing on Reddit has to be surreptitious. It shouldn't look like marketing.

See www.reddit.com/r/hailcorporate for the REAL ways to market things on Reddit. Ads simply don't work. I feel sorry for Reddit management, but the truth is they have a suspersized 4-chan on their hands, full of people who feel entitled to consume stuff and not click ads, entitled college students who think the world should pay for their starbucks, iphones and hipster mac computers but oh they *hate* mean old capitalism....thus they don't click on ads...

That is all you have to know how the big big guys (even governments) do effective marketing on Reddit without exposing yourself to the negative stuff they say on ads.

Thanks for the info. The subreddit I have has 800,000+ *correction 400,000* users on it so my links and advertising is exposed to so many people, hence why I post there. Are you/anyone reading this thread aware of any big gaming forums/communities that's similar to reddit? without all the neckbeards preferably.

Reddit is cancer. It's like going to ***** and expecting no hate and civil discussion. They circlejerk the stupidest things and change at a whim. During the Note 7 controversy many on reddit were supporting Samsung, then after a few months they switched and are anti-Note 7. But with S8 they love it, seeing it as innovation. It's retarded. Just ignore reddit for feedback, it's just an advertising platform like Youtube. Best to you OP.
 
Improve your work quality and offer the best possible solution to your users. The number of positive feedbacks will eventually suppress all the negative ones.
 
It is quite common... happened with me as well. But I didn't focus on these negative Comments....Be focused towards your goals and be positive always
 
Fight fire with fire, hire a VA to locate all posts by this individual and troll them.

Best $200 a month you will even spend.
 
You can't please everybody but you can pursue what you want to do. It might not be perfect but constantly doing it will make you better. You can also check their reactions, that way you can adjust to what they want or what is "in".
 
Its not always in your hands, what is gonna be happen in next moment. Same like, you are not be able to control over Negative responses you get. Take the responses as suggestions and move further to make you better than yesterday in all aspects. Good Luck.
 
There will be always negative stuff, but it looks to me that it works good for you since it generates traffic for you.
You may try to find or post to more or other subreddits as well as adjust your postings so they won't be downvoted.
You can also buy upvote service...and upvote your own posts so downvoting won't make them disappear from subreddits front page.
 
Does the traffic convert at all, if not the effort and the haters are just analytics vanity...
 
If people cared about the comments, you wouldn't be receiving the traffic you are. I agree with BTB, keep going - but incorporate any tips of gaps that are pointed out. If you're trying to monetize the site, than you HAVE to look at each comment and see if there's any constructive advice, no matter how shitty of a manner it's wrapped in.
Reincorporating tips either back into the content or your next piece of content will help you out when you bridge the dialogue back to the audience in the form of, "some feedback that I decided to incorporate is". This also shows your readers you aren't some spammy fly by night huckster but someone trying to create a dialogue about this niche. It's what every noobie goes through in a niche trade forum. Persist and before you know it, the negativity starts to turn to interactivity. Just make sure you're giving great content and your site doesn't look spammy...
 
Avoid reddit. The toughest community, I have also several negative experience with it. If you do not invest in high karma accounts than it is hard to control what happenes there.

I think Reddit is great for many things, not least among them making contact with other people who share your interests (which can be very specific or niche). Like others said, you must be careful when promoting your project or website on Reddit. Make informative posts without letting on that you want to drive people to your website. In fact, think of Reddit as a subtle sauce that you have to simmer juuust right... forever.
That is, Reddit is a long-term marketing target. Approach it as such, and play the long and subtle game. Good luck.
