I just wonder what political views he had that 'he would never be able to find employment in his field ever again.'

He was very anti-[a certain country] to the point of saying offensive things about [the religion of what he said were the people occupying the country part of his family came from]. There was some other stuff too but this was the most damning one.

in USA or UK or both? what about european countries?
Not that easy to shop around countries like that expecting to get work visas and so on. Especially when your google results are garbo.

THE thing is what is "extreme" these days. It can be simply having a different opinion to your employer! The world is far to sensitive! What used to be extreme can now be classed as someone liking the letter A whereas everyone else likes B. It's all going loopy!

A bunch of people kicked off over poundlands tweet late last week because some felt it was oppressing women!

This is quite different. The OP is talking for a person (not company) that expressed " pretty bigoted views" loud enough to be catch on the medias. What exactly he was expecting to happen?

To be fair, it wasn't actual media but "vigilante activists" in his case. And he was saying these things anonymously until he got doxxed by these activists who put in substantial efforts to identify him.

This is some bullshit. Fuck employers like that. That's why you need to have your own business.

Internet was always about freedom. Freedom of your word, of your opinion, and now it is becoming some sort of a place where you cannot express your views.

Stay anonymous my colleagues. Because one day your tutorial on the internet might be used against you :)

Well no it's no different to someone (a person) posting something on social media and someone complaining about it or not being able to get a job as a result. I'm sure some woman was hounded earlier this year because she said there are only 2 sexes. Or that family who had a baking shop refuse to serve a gay couple.

If my media profile was saying I liked Donald Trump and the job I was going for was anti-Trump. Do you think that would affect me getting the job or shouldn't it matter? NOTE I don't want this to be political I'm using it as an example.

Like I said there are people behind companies and these days people will be offended over "anything". Look I understand if you are posting burn X race/people then it's going to affect you and I'm in no way condoning any of that.

But all I'm saying things that shouldn't matter are becoming "offensive" topics.

@DarKappa
.What I have read now above about the man's belief, sounds like he was 100% raciest.

what I can work out what been said the man was fully against immigrants.

with such beliefs don't no where he could ever get a job anyway.

very sad situation and mindset.

is this true or wrong opinion?
only guessing from written info.

I understand what you're saying man but I guess we have to accept that there are consequences for sayings things that may seem innocuous to many people and what those things are change year-to-year. I always try to keep up with media on what is acceptable or not. Gotta keep up with the times fella, it could cost you your job if you don't! Your kids don't deserve to be homeless.

This is not really accurate but I think the interpretation you have is pretty representative. It actually helps me to think that he deserved what happened to him in a way. Society has standards after all.

Yeah, your right. Times are changing and it's mental.

My personal situation is safe though even if i went on a drunken rage on twitter it would all be ok the next day :) Not everyone's that lucky but yeah, the generation that grew up with pub talk can't bring that online where it can never be forgotten...

a loss of life still very sad , but the burden some leave behind is huge .

i only wrote what i fort was being said sorry

Well, this shit happens in Germany. If you say something wrong you can destroy your future. Just take a look on Mesut Özil (football player) he took a picture with the turkish president and he got HAUNTED for weeks in the german press. I know some journalists, which investigated the "wrong" topic and got kicked out from their job and labelled as "antisemit", "nazi" even they are absolutely not like this.

There is definitely something like a "no go zone". Unfortunately we are living in times, where is NO freedom of speech. You won't go to jail in some countries (like germany etc.) but they will destroy you financially, your career etc. make you become a persona non grata.

No don't feel bad, I think this is how it is. You weren't that far off in a way. I think as a society we need to understand that being unemployable, losing ones home and unable to afford medical care is the price to pay for saying bad things. If that leads you to suicide, in a way that's a warning to others. It might not seem that way given the "rights" people talk about, but it is. It can be pretty effective too. I think he told me his friends all quit that forum he was part of after that happened.

I actually think we should allow some form of more gentle euthanasia for such dissidents. Would be more humane.

Well, if these views were truly so repulsive and dangerous I just wouldn't take the job unless they changed their ways. Now, if they issued a sincere apology that's plenty of material to work with as an ORM professional.

Maybe he did other stuff and he was getting blackmailed. We dont know.
Suicide is very definitive and it causes trauma to the family, that is not an option. Start fresh again is way better cause you test yourself in new niches and new jobs.
Maybe he had some mental disorders, like what happened to Robbin Williams, he was lacking OMEGA vitamin they say.

I just had a client kill himself leaving behind his wife and three kids because it was obvious he would never be able to find employment in his field ever again.
He could have been a notorious drug lord or bank robber. Why people kill themselves like this, instead of doing loads of cash?

It's a really difficult situation to deal with (ORM) when the client didn't set up "safes" initially- VPN, fake name, etc.

Really, when you think about it, this is a life issue more than a reputation issue when it gets to this stage- constant hounding from the other side, doxxing, etc.

If I were speaking to someone who simply couldn't get away from the bad reputation, my advice would be to get off the internet (for mental well-being) and to get a low barrier to entry job, such as factory work or fast food (in a different nearby town).

Then, once the client was offline and had a job (for money and to keep busy) I would make it known that the client was quitting whatever it was they did- blogging, YouTube, social media, etc. This will tell the other side (haters) that they won, so they can move on to their next target.

After some time has gone by and people had forgotten about the client, I would then start to do the routine work. Basically, people are too "aware" during the fight, but once the fight stops then they move on and find a new target.

Everyone has a right to live, so it's sad to hear this. You shouldn't feel bad about this, as it's not your fault. Him getting exposed like that is partially the fault of those activists and partially his own fault. Its unfortunate that his mental state escalated the issue like this. Like others have said, all you can do is direct your clients to help if you notice theyre in a bad mental state.
Aside from that just tell them what you can do: move links to the back of google etc
and what you cant do: guarantee employment etc

He's not anti-immigrant. He's anti-Israel/Jews. Part of his family comes from Palestine. Although I guess you could consider the settlers 'immigrants', in some way.

Although couldn't he have just issued a sincere apology and say that he no longer holds those views. I doubt everyone would refuse to employ him, if he did that.

Goodness

You should'nt need to die just because of your views, some views might make you unsavory or out of societys norms but jeez, this must be terrible for his family.

You can always retrain you cant come back from suicide.
