I suspect that this latest link spam update will only be "deadly" if you recklessly build links.
I'm talking about the link itself.
If it comes from dodgy sources or you link unnaturally, for example, one thousand links per day, this update will take care of that on top of previous anti-link spam updates.
Still, the big story here is the pace of Google's algorithm updates .
Does anybody notice that?
Recently, we came from a Spamdex update involving scraped content used for link building and now this.
Before this, there was the Core Web Vitals update.
I suspect that Google still has a few more surprises up its sleeve for the rest of the year.
Does this mean that blackhat SEO and spam sites are going away any time soon?
Not quite.
In fact, it might have the opposite effect.
If Google comes out with an effective combination of anti-spam tools, it's only going to kill off some players.
But the ones that make it are the ones who know how to work around the system.
And what do you think they'll do? They'll make more pages because, as everybody knows, spamming Google is a volume game .
So instead of "cleaning up" the Internet or its index, Google is paving the way for more spammy pages.
That's just the nature of the beast.
Think of it as a farmer blasting pesticides on corn.
Many pests will die, but the ones that make it will be resistant to the pesticide.
And guess what happens? The corn gets eaten up sooner rather than later.
It's an ongoing arms race.
Until and unless Google comes up with a ranking system that has nothing to do with links, I don't see this situation getting cleaned up soon.
