In a hurry, I accidentally formatted a backup drive of mine, and was wondering if anyone knew of a good reputable Free program that can recover at least 80% of it?

Thanks

Do a search on google for hirem's boot cd. There are a few data recovery programs on it that I've used in the past with some success. It has a lot of other good tools for analyzing, recovering and fixing your computer as well. It used to have a free version as well as a paid version with even more tools. I imagine it still does.

i think you can't find such free program and if your HDD was formatted, it isn't sure at all that you can recover any of the files...
try GetDataBack for NTFS (shareware), i've just used it yesterday on one of my external HDDs and it worked well (although my HDD wasn't formatted, "just" damaged), it successfully recovered ~90% of the lost data

I have a Sea Gate Free Agent external HD that just stopped working. Is there anything I can do to get the data off it?

Hmm thanks guys for the replies. I've been really busy lately. I actually just heard from a friend of mine today that hirem's boot cd is a good one. Thanks I'll probably give that a try.

This is an excellent thread that I'm bookmarking for later use. Cheers.
