hey guys. I had a site with a well known brand. let's say Nikeshoesonline.com where I had affiliate links. They found out that I owned it and requested me to take it down. I have put a lot of work into the domain. Content + links etc etc for over a year. I have a similar niche site so I decided to 301 redirect the domain there.

Now the company wants me to transfer the domain to them? What are my options. this domain will boost the SEO for my other site.

what would happen if they try to go to court over this. The domain never made any money but was on the brink of the 1st page in google.

Anyone with experience in this. Im a US resident

Oh hell no!

They are trying to bully you. They already got you to take it down, now they want more.

Does your domain have a brand name in it? If so, you will have problems.

yes. it has their brand name in the domain. I just don't feel like working for free with transfers etc
 
what would you do in my situation. I haven't spoken to the company but the affiliate network where I got their links
 
How bigs your purse compared to mr brand?

If it's been 301nd for a while then the juice have passed, tidy up the quality links to your new domain then spam the shit out of it and let them have it

Unfortunately it is against the law to use someone else's brand name, logos, etc. without their authorization. A cease and desist letter is what is normally used to get people to stop whatever infringing they are doing on someone else's brand.

They probably want the domain to ensure you won't use it again in the future. Maybe you could sign an agreement to not use it, or you might be able to get them to pay you for it, or they will have to wait for the domain to expire to get it.

But don't use their brand name anymore, or they will continue to harass you, and eventually sue you.

I only redirected it yesterday so the 301 will take a little while. I could haul it for a bit until my other domain ranks. I asked for an administrative fee. let's see what they say

I hear you. I have received letters from facebook/instagram lawyers in the past. they don't work fast fortunately. I don't really care about the domain name TBH I just want my hard earned SEO value kept :)

That will take a week for paper work and approval anyway.... Then take a couple of weeks holiday then a week to catch up once you're back in work :)

The sites not up and I presume you're not using an exact clone with borderline brand likeness etc

nothing happened. after the 3rd email I 301 redirected to a generic and kept the rankings. not a sound from them after. this was when domainname meant everything and I could rank a site #1 for a competitive term in 2 weeks tho.

I would wait for them to present you with a court order rather than doing anything voluntarily. That will give you time to get more link juice out of your redirect.
