I recently managed to find a good expired domain which was previously used by a software vendor (cd, music player related). It has back links from sites like cnet, windowspedia etc.

    What I did?
I built a Technology blog on it a week ago and did a 301 redirected all the pages (which have backlinks) to the homepage. Added the site to Webmastrs tools and now it shows that around 275 links are pointing at the homepage.
The site is indexed and no issues popped up!

Am I being paranoid that the big G would smell something fishy and drop a penalty? Would 275 links pointing at the homepage cause any issues. These are not spammy links and the anchor profile is very clean!

Kindly suggest @royserpa and other biggies!

My friend, I have faced Google penalties without a single unnatural backlink at times. There is no guarantee that if everything is clean, you would not get any penalty.

Do not worry about the future too much if the website does well in the present. Normally it should not be a problem as this is expired domain. Did you do 301 redirection of the pages with backlinks or all random pages except your actual pages. That might look fishy but then again do not worry too much about the future. There have been hundreds or probably thousands of discrepancies that I have seen with what Google says and what it actually does. I have followed Google guidelines word by word for a long time and yet got penalized or faced problems at times. They are also prone to problems and in reality, their various algorithm and technical guidelines are just pure BS. Their own bots and guidelines hardly work properly.
