What about post urls? I mean, after you changed the post/page titles, did you also changed the permalinks of your posts?While I agree that there are many factors any you should be doing everything you can, I'm 100% sure that the over optimization penalty is huge. This site below I renamed page titles to something less spammy and more organic, removed any spammy atl/title tags on images/links, and lowered keyword density. I still have not added more text but I'm sure that will help even more. This happened to me over and over on sites I'm updating.

I did change some on some of the sites, but only a few sites had them. For example keyword-topic.html to topic.html. I only did this on the pages that didn't have any incoming links.

How long has it been? If you look at my graph above my page dropped temporarily for a few days before bouncing back.

If you look at the graph it dropped around March 8th (exactly when the penalty hit). I updated it sometime at the end of March then after it reindex it dropped off to nowhere for a few days then spiked a week or so later. Not sure why it took that long I'm thinking maybe the sub pages didn't reindex right away? I had lots of spammy alt and title tags which I fixed siteword as well as page titles.

In my case i did a 301 refirect to a new domain i regained my rankings but 3 days ago ALOT OF my keywords went n/a and has been like that for 4 days now. The domain itself is indexed tho

Are all your key words in place? How long did the 301 orientation sit? Would you recommend? Is the new domain old or new?

I'll save you the trouble. Had a site ranking #40 with keyword density around 3.2%. I dropped the density to 1% and now its 100+. Similar results with a few other sites. I just tested this recently

did you consider that it took probably days or weeks to get to #40 for that kw. then u changed and it dropped to 100. let it wait for the same period of time maybe? i also experiment a lot with densities now and I have it similar - i decreased from 0.50 to 0.10 and on certain pages it went from N/A to top 20 and on some it went from top 10 to top 80.

There's no specific density for all keywords, analyze the top 5 for that keyword, that's all I'm going to say.

Have you guys checked the competitors who are ranked for that keyword? There isn't a magic # for keyword density. How many characters are in your search term? If you have a 20 character search phrase you can have it on the page 5x and you could have a 10 character term on the page 10x. They will both have the same density. I'm sure google has a different algorithm to assess it than sites like seobook.com does. I'm not sure what that algorithm is but you have to test it out and see what's working for other people.

Actually it took 10 months to get there. It took 4 months to get to #29 and then it fluctuated between the 40's and 50's. I doubt it's coming back down

If you chanced the urls then this is part of your problem. It takes MONTHS for google to understand a internal url shift. It's easier for them to do a site transfer with 301 than to understand the new site structure when you change urls.
URLs should never change.
