Corona Virus is going to keep clothing and natural fiber textiles alive and well an this is how and why. At the end I will put up a poll. Due to the recent events and stay at home orders globally companies have not stopped production of oil and natural gas. This combined with less air travel has reduced demands on crude causing an oil glut. You can confirm this by looking at your trusted news sources. So all is well for consumers who love to buy cheap gas and wear Polyester or Nylon.
Polyester is a polymer that is derived from crude oil, Nylon is also a material that is derived from oil in a high-pressure heated environment. So these items over time will drop in value and cost which is good if your making cheap jersey style fabrics or "trash bag" style clothing. In the coming weeks if not months you will see floods of poly-blends an polyester style clothing more than usual because companies will go with the cheapest option an since people are running out of places to store oil we will make them wear it.
Cotton, hemp, wool, any natural fiber really takes an animal or field to grow, it also takes time. Due to abnormal demands in the retail market (you may have seen these) you will need farmers to increase supply to compensate for this. No they probably will not be planting a large amount of cotton because you cant eat it. Animals need feed so that means multiple different crops that can be used to make the feed to feed the increase in cattle, chickens, and pigs. You cant just feed animals so you have to increase production in other vegetables to replace the raw resources that were used up as well as the easy-bake style goods consumers enjoy or the "just add water" style items.
All of the above listed things including demand for natural fibers in the medical field for masks, gowns, etc. will start to make cost of that 100% cotton t-shirt you love to wear go up. So the more waves that happen and keep demands up the higher the cost of natural clothing fibers further down the road.
