Any content people consume online has to do with these 3 broad motives:
Education - The want more information/guidance on something (Explains the success of Google)
Inspiration - Quotes, examples, success stories, hacks etc (Explains the success of Pinterest)
Entertainment - They are trying to kill time/have fun. (Explains the success of Facebook/YouTube/Instagram)
So when coming up with a piece of copy, I have found that checking if I have included all these 3 components in the right proportion (depending on the product) goes a long way in making it more engaging for everyone in the target audience.
