Hello everyone.
I always wanted to start a movies/series streaming site, maybe several sites, as this is an interesting niche plus it probably brings tons of money. However I'm wonderin about the risks. I see thousands of illegal streaming sites that have been here for years whitout being shutted down, however some huge ones are closed by police.
Anyone knows what risks really are, for a small streaming site? Is it possible to be protected from police using fake name, VPN, bitcoins etc... or should I stay away from this kind of sites?
Thank you

they can take down your site by contacting your domain provider or hosting provider.

what if he takes a domain like .se (apparently ignores copyright) and uses offshore hosting?

You answered your own question. Sort of. There are no risks for small streaming websites, because they (authorities) do not give a fuck. Big players get the attention of the popo, because everyone will know what happened --> creating an example out of them. Just make sure you do not leave traces of your IP and identity once you get up there. IF you get up there.

I'm also interested in this. If they just take you down, well, no sweat. But what about fines?

It is possible not to use my own name in creating an offshore hosting? And can cloudflare hide my ip? So authorities cant trace me.

Ukraine host, buy the domain from them, pay in bitcoin, always hide behind 7 proxy's, never reuse a username or any info that can be tied to you, never login from home, use open wifi hot spots, buy a laptop with cash and never plug it in at your home, profit.

So the best thing to do would be to create several small sites and if one gets bigger take it down.

Wow, you don't want to get into NASA, dude.. You just want to build a streaming website :P If they send you a takedown notice, you take it down, as simple as that.. am I wrong ? The guy makes it seem like you'll find yourself in a CIA basement if you try the method..

Why should i take down. You know there are offshore hosting that ingnore DMCA right? And it is possible to use cloudflare so my ip wont be trace?

7 proxy's is an inside joke, google it, Hollywood doesn't play around if you get on their radar, big fines and jail time if you get caught, why risk it for a buck, never break the law from home, hacker 101.

Ross Ulbricht's screw up on Tor's Silk Road was a simple bust looking back, bitcoin is traceable, ask the federal agents who were busted stealing bitcoins from the silkroad, all you have to do is hack a site and the owner will get outed easy as hell.

Post a 1x1 clear pixel and you get get every ip that surfs a website (unless your using VPN's or proxys) hell their could be one in this thread.

You will wish it was a CIA basement, and not the contractors in Albania (kidding, or am i ? )

How many visitors do you have and how much do you earn per day?

Did you make sure to hide your identity?

It depends on the country, in my country huge streaming site owners often get to jail for several years + several million euros fine. But that only happens for owners of sites with millions of visitors

The larger the site the more likely of the sue process.
