there's no ideal, you just need to address the intent of the keyword thoroughly without getting your visitors bored.

Word count of content may be any but the quality of the content is important to rank

Best way is to analyze the content quality, length and keyword use for your "niche keyword" top search results.

1000 words is sweet spot for me but for affiliate articles more content might be required.

As written earlier, the best option to analyze the pages that are well ranked for your keyword and calculate the average number of words. The same thing you can do with keywords and headlings. You just have to compete in SERP for all key elements.

On google, long texts work better, but the text must be without water and on topic.

I had seen 200 words content ranking and 5k words content being non ranked as well, doesn't matters much
