I want to start some autoblogs and send traffic to them from Twitter. I'd like to use content sources that are legal and won't get me into trouble. I've been looking at APIs like this:

    http://api.prnewswire.com/user/jsp/register.jsp

And maybe I could get press releases from government sites or from news sites that have open APIs?

    Any ideas?

Another issue is, I'm not all that techy -- so how would I actually get and use these API feeds?

I'm thinking about monetizing with content widgets (Content.ad, etc.). And possibly AdSense, but I'm worried about getting banned for not having original content.

Autoblogs have to post their own contents from the articles feeders such as RSS feeds and rewrite them. So, the blog contents are not unique at all or some times, but usually most. So, you can't apply it for Adsense. If do, your blog will easily ban by Google, that I think. I am not sure with it mate. I am too looking for some more info regards with this thread.

RSS is not a bad option too especially if you go to the link and scrape the whole article instead of the excerpt from the feed.

My main concern is to avoid having the autoblog shut down, or getting sued.

this is what you are looking for https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-rss-aggregator/
Some may make you take off their articles which happened to me a few years back.
Some like the BBC have terms like not using the BBC logo etc and only allow headlines which when clicked to go their site.
You can play safe and only use titles which link to original site or pull in whole articles with link back and author name etc

I actually had @sam.hunt0710 set something similar up for me last week.

I'm just taking whole articles from a bunch of RSS feeds and not giving an attribute or link back to the source. It's a short term, maybe 6 month project, for me and I figure I'll fly under the radar for that period of time before someone starts calling me names and sending me love letters.

yeh i got caught like that, a blog with hundreds of articles pulled from rss feeds then BAM! a lawsuit threat. I was told to remove all articles pulled from this one site and they checked and checked again. It took weeks as every time i thought i'd done it they said no we can still find our material on your site.
So i killed the site and deleted it - so much quicker

I've done that 7 or 8 times over the years... you make hay while the sun shines and when you get the nasty notes you close shop and move around the corner and reopen.

But the hay you make is well worth the cost of closing the doors and calling the movers.

i agree totally, sometimes it's worth the risk. Most are just empty threats. i just relaunched it without that rss feed and flipped the site later.

I'm thinking of making an autoblog using only YouTube videos. Would that work -- any idea about risks?

RSS feeds is the best way. I remember creating a complete blog from twitter feeds of different celebrities around 5-6 years ago. The content was automatically syndicated when they posted content. It was not illegal either I suppose and many other websites were aggregating twitter accounts. At the end, I had sold the blog on Flippa for a few hundred dollars. Worked out ok. However, such content does not work the best in organic search from what I had noticed. It used to still get a few hundred visitors every day as they were popular celebs but the clicks were rare and had very low CPC. I am not sure if it was somehow related or not to the duplicate content thing.

Are you using @dsense? How else do you monetize? I'm thinking about setting something up like this.
