Content is King

Absolutely... Good quality and unique content with correct keyword density helps get good ranking on search engines...

Good content will separate itself from the bad content, but SEO is helpful in distinguishing good content from other good content.

It is interesting. I have this one website, that I set up about 6 months ago. It has about 20 pages on it, with the majority being pages with 1,000+ words on it. It is a website I made out of interest, NOT money. I am an expert on the subject and the articles were of exceptional quality to someone reading it; honestly, they were exceptional. I haven't updated it since I released it. The site has just climbed and climbed in the SERPs. I optimized a particular page for a moderately difficult keyword. Zero link building. The page gets about 10-15 visitors a day from search engines now, and its an incredibly incredibly niche topic, and its about to break the first page of Google for that moderately difficult keyword. I have done absolutely nothing, except put exceptional quality articles out there (the site contains over 30,000 words altogether).

So that certainly taught me something.

Thinking about it, I REALLY need to add social shares to that website.

Text itself contributes only 17% to communications and if you can add up visual support it will be much easier to deliver your message.

There is no concrete way in SEO.

I post unique content every day for all of my websites. Have great rankings and all the websites have a very weak backlink profile. In my case content = king. It's a lot of work, but in the long run you'll win and it's definitely worth it!

If youre content by itself is ranking in your niche all by itself, you're likely not in a niche where there are a lot of competitors using seo to rank. I know I know there are 100 or so of you excpetions - but the web is a londa big ass place - and the # of sites ranking for big volume terms in competitive niches with "good content" alone is pretty friggin infinitesimal.

Content is very important nowadays + strong social signals

Relevant Content = King.

Not unique, or long, or great. RELEVANCY is the key. Humans want relevant answers to their problems. Google rewards relevancy whether you write a long article, make a video or buy an Adwords account.

Relevant Content + Relevant Links = Traffic & Money. It's not the guy with the most traffic that makes a lot. It's the guy with the most relevant traffic. Think about it...

...yes; content is important for visitor engagement and conversion, and it 'helps' with ranking... But 10 million beautiful glossy brochures in their boxes are useless without the distribution and marketing machine to put them in the right hands.

There are many SEO strategies, depending on the competitiveness of the terms. Black/grey/white hat doesn't exist. Commercial SEO is as aggressive as your market requires, and is usually inversely proportional to longevity of ranking!

Marketing doesn't guarantee sales. You can buy lots of traffic and end up broke.

It's about having relevant content and a working business system. I agree that marketing is important but there are hundreds of "make money online" programs teaching marketing yet very few people who earn full time income online.

I've been making money online since 2000 and relevant content has been the key to my success. If I look over my dozens of projects over the years, I clearly see a trend:

Relevant content that solves problems makes you BIG money.

Let's compare two search engines:

Google vs Yahoo!

Both have HUGE marketing budgets and spend billions of dollars. But what separates them?

Relevancy!

Yahoo! thinks people want to read articles about celebrities and hot topics. That's just false. People want to search for stuff.

Google gets this so they deem more relevant in the user's eyes. The best marketing is simple relevant content.

McDonalds feeds you in less than 5 minutes and you always tell your friends and the cycle continues.

Brilliant marketing never replaces relevancy because it's viral.

Another example:

Plenty of Fish spent ZERO dollars on advertising yet it's the largest dating site in the world.

Why?

It's free and easy. The Markus guy gets it.

If there's one thing you can do to your sites, ask yourself honestly: How relevant are they?

It's a great way to spend one evening and 2x your income overnight because getting rid of the clutter and giving people what they want fast!

This is a really old thread, but I just wanted to bump it to add something. With all of the google updates, I've just sat there and done nothing but add social shares (doesn't get many, nature of the niche) and I've also accepted some comments I received from people. The result is that the page broke the first page for the moderately difficult term and it is #4. And the site gets 30-50 visitors from search engines - mostly Google - each day. I literally have done nothing else.

Again, its very niche, but its been interested watch it flow in. If you had a niche that was very niche, and you wrote exceptional content, then after 6-or-so months, Google will reward you. And if your niche has a high-ticket offer, then you could make a lot of money! Something to think about.

Content is indeed King for online marketing. I often produce new unique articles for my own niche sites which assist in ranking my sites well on Google. I strongly believe in content marketing if you want to succeed online.
