For whitehat SEO I really do feel that content is king. Does everyone agree with me on this or will others say that there is something else that beats content for when using whitehat?

Last month i realize something very strange with my main keyword.
G**gl3 decide that an EMD parked domain site without a single word of content (and of course no "quality content") contain ONLY advertisements (not adwords - other provides) worth to be from #10 to #1, depend on the local version of G**gl3 you use! (G**gl3.com - G**gl3.de - G**gl3.fr etc)
The keyword is quite competitive in local search (75K exact searches/month) there are many websites full of content and the parked domain site has (according to SEOmoz) only 3 backlinks and of course PR0 (in the same niche there are webiste with PR3 and 10K backlinks)!
So if you believe that "content is king", maybe you have to think again!

Might be the freshness factor in action.
How long have you had those 1-10 places ?
Unique content is king. But only at the beginning. After your domain is trusted you can throw non unique at it as well and it sticks and ranks.
    Just my experience.

The day that a computer can distinguish good content from bad content, content will be king for ranking your website. Until then, only metrics that a computer can judge are really relevant to ranking a website, such as backlinks.

Last month. This EMD site was expired last summer (i lost the auction...) and for more than 10 months was out of first 1000 positions since there is no content at all but advertisements in one single page.
But last month i realize that this EMD come back and if you search the keyword from some local G**gl3 versions you can get even #1 position!
And positions #2 - #10 old (10 year+ web sites full of unique content PR1-PR3 and with many quality backlinks - one of them including backlinks from dmoz.org and yahoo directory!!!!!)

Content + Optimization + Backlinks + Age + Authority = King, Duke, Lord, Emperor, Queen, whatever else you want to call it. It isn't hard to achieve all of them. Just try harder.

content is king but not just by itself and i think it should be more like ( unique quality content is king )

content has a lot to do with ranking in my opinion. if you have a website you want ranked its best to have high quality unique content ( no spun content ) on your website. If you have shit content your visitor will most likely leave. if you have spun content well its not gonna help ur ranking. if google sees ur visitors are leaving as soon as the come to your site then your content probably sucks and google will take this into consideration on your ranks. also if ur content isnt good then user leave without clicking ur ads or buying ur product and no money for u. now that is why u need good quality content on your site..

but also.. for offline SEO you need content and unique content not some spun up bs. yea ppl will probably argue about that but if you invest in good unique written content with anchor links to your site for your offline seo then you have no worries about google thinking you got duplicate or spun content. i know some of you guys think well how the hell am i going to get unique content for all my article link and shit because you need 1000s of links and articles.. well you dont need 1000s of articles pointing to your site to rank, and if these 1000 articles are shit spun crap content pointing to your site well google can tell and bad for ranking.

now im not going to explain my whole thoughs on content but yes i think content is defiantly king without it u dont rank, with shit content you could possibly have a chance depending on competition and how shitty ur content is. and if you blast out 1000 spun crappy articles to your site well thats old school seo doesnt work anymore, maybe for some low comp niches idk.

10 unique articles pointing to you site is better than 1000 shit articles pointing to your site. going with unique content you CANT go wrong yea its a little more work but not that much. you know the saying work smarter not harder?

you need links from every different type of links you can get like articles, docs, wikis, videos, well u know and you had better make your first tier of links if including content unique pointing to your site.. trust me google will notice and reward you for you after all their job is to provide relevant and valuable search results and they are getting pretty good at it.

sb and mass article submitters and shit like that are good to blast links to the bottom of your pyramid

I once heard that links were the queen. Not sure if this is true, but the person who said it thought that links would have to be the queen.

On some of my autoblogs, the content on there is ranking on page one...and I'm not even trying to rank it! LOL go figure. My main site has a mix of unique and curated content, the former is older (written by me). Unfortunately, I don't have the time to write more for it (I write for bigger sites now), but I still keep it around for reference purposes. Since I still write about the same thing, it's a great reference point that I can use.

    LOL cute

Really, even if you are not going to get some good traffic to it due to the fact that if you do not spend time on content, your page may stink.

Content should always be the focus of the site, at first. If there is no content worth reading or seeing on the site, than people won't go. It's not just content, but relevant content, high quality content.
