I was wondering what people here charge for a sit down consultation about SEO, social media marketing and affiliate sales. I ask because I have someone asking me to share what I know, it's not a lot but I have some good foundations and strategies that I've learned from here that do me well. So what's the going hourly rate for that? Any help is appreciated thanks!

I charge more than my lawyer charges his clients... I know this because he used me for exactly what you are about to offer.

450.00 - 600.00 per hour is fair in my opinion.

Where are you at offering that?
Some people from small cities are very eager to migrate to digital advertising.

I'd tell you but then I'd have to...well you know. =P

Out of curiosity now lets say I tell him these things and he wants to hire me. What are those figures like?

This to me is sales pitch time. I'm not going to hard sell him but by the end of the consultation he's going to be asking me for
    the contract.
This is your opportunity to find out everything about his business.
How much he spends and how much are his returns.
Prove to him you can beat that and nail him.
Show him what he wants. More profit for less expenditure and effort.
If they want your knowledge to take elsewhere and punt for a lower price then hit them in the pocket.
Try a non disclosure agreement so they can't show your findings to another consultant and offer
them a reduction if they use your services.
Most of all you want to keep the ball in your court. Everything you present has to be backed up with evidence
so they don't need a second opinion.
Wow them, get them salivating at the mouth and then let them do the buying

    ^^ This.

But you need to be sure you're equally worthy for the price you charge and you know your stuff.

I think fee for service is never the way forward... I think taking a percentage of the upside is instead the best way to live life :)

Charge based on what your time is worth and the budget range the guy is working with. There is no way a startup business is gonna pay $2000 for your consulting or $450 for a hour. So go with what you think makes sense.

That is far from accurate. A startup is typically in a position to spend a fair amount of money on arenas where they need expertise and have a legitimate need. They are probably an easier close as well when the time comes for the real money if what is being offered has sustainable value.

It depends upon several different factors. Charge what you feel your time would be worth as it is going to be a starting point for you. It would also depend upon whether you are looking to get them to do their own stuff or whether you would prefer to convert them as your monthly clients.

Don't make the assumption that all startups have no money to spend :)

There will always be significantly well funded startups that crave top-calibre consultants in all the key fields, including of course SEO.
