Congratulations Indians!! "India's first Mars probe"

I can't believe sending probe to Mars is easier than dealing with poverty and crime. It seems so in this case.

The same could be said of any nation.

Good to see they are still spending the UK aid money given to them on the people who need it most.

Do you read The Mail or The Express?

There are poor people everywhere in this world - even in the UK. The aid money to India has a lot to do with its colonial past.

Go India! I'm glad SOMEBODY is still doing these things.

Congratulations and happy being an Indian in this kind of cases.

But still there are many more things that needs to be taken care of Like "The Internet".
Getting a stable(Still suffering from an issue need to use Proxies to surf) and High Speed Internet.
Maximum I get at my State is 4mbps for a Shit load of currency.

Lol But still a Proud Indian. :)

A fantastic achievement - and on such a small budget too!

They did it for about 10% of the NASA Mars mission budget and have almost no previous experience.
Yes the ISRA budget to do this was much smaller than what NASA had, but (aside from the differences in labor and manufacturing valuations) a lot of this is possible now because of shared information and building on previous global experience. And while they might have had "almost no previous experience" themselves, they had plenty of previous experience to draw from.

That's how all technological achievements throughout history have been advanced. Something is discovered, invented, or achieved then as that knowledge is disseminated to others it gets refined and/or combined with other available knowledge and eventually things that were once unachievable become common occurrences. In prehistory that process sometimes took thousands or tens of thousands of years, in ancient to classical times it took hundreds of years, in early modern times it took a generation, and more recently just decades. Even that pace of advancement for that process is due to the process itself. The exciting thing about living today is that (thanks to global communication and especially the internet) the sharing of knowledge is becoming almost instantaneous and virtually unstoppable.

India deserves respect for this impressive achievement, but even more exciting is that it represents another step in mankinds expansion beyond a single planet.

This achievement along with the recent developments of commercial space programs are examples of how fast space technology is becoming more widely accessible. Exploring the stars in a Star Trek like future is a long way off if even possible, but taking advantage of our own solar system is probably not so far off. Mining and manufacturing facilities off planet will probably become a reality during the lifetime of many people on this forum.

For the people who made posts alluding to the idea that India should be more concerned with it's poor than with space, I say this was a smart move for India. One of the best things a country can do to deal with the issue of poverty is to become prosperous, historically whenever a new frontier is found it's the countries that can take advantage of it first that prosper the most. As commercial development in space becomes more feasable, (especially foundational development like mining or manufacturing) then it will be smart for countries like India to take advantage of it before private corporations do.

So, congratulations to India for this impressive achievement.

Yes , this is indeed a great achievement.I am always proud to be an Indian.
